We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexys Dowling and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexys, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Pursuing music has always involved a certain level of risk. Choosing to attend music school and dedicate myself to a lifelong dream instead of a traditional career path wasn’t the safest choice, but it was the most authentic one for me. I see risk as an essential part of growth — it challenges you to adapt, stay creative, and keep evolving. I’d rather build a life shaped by bold decisions and passion than one defined by comfort or predictability. Every risk I’ve taken so far has taught me something valuable and brought me closer to the kind of career I truly want and have always dreamed of since I was a little girl.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud of how consistent I’ve been with my brand and vision as an artist. Over time, my sound has evolved and grown, but my core mission has always stayed the same — to give people a sense of nostalgia when they listen to my music. I want every song to feel like a moment you’ve lived before, something that connects past emotions with present experiences.

Getting to where I am today hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced plenty of challenges, but I’m grateful for each one because they’ve shaped who I am and given me so much inspiration for my music. Those experiences help me connect more deeply with others through my art. During tough times, I’ve had to remind myself that I’m making my younger self proud — that thought keeps me grounded and pushes me forward.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that as artists, we are often our own toughest critics, but we also need to be our biggest supporters. Believing in yourself is essential. Confidence and self-trust are what allow creativity to thrive, even when things get uncertain.

What I want the world to know about my story is that everything I create comes from a place of honesty and heart. My music is for people who want to feel something real — whether that’s comfort, nostalgia, or inspiration. I want listeners to feel like they’re at a retro rock concert — that electric mix of emotion, energy, and timeless sound that makes you forget where you are for a moment and just feel. My journey is about staying authentic, evolving with purpose, and using my art to remind others that they’re not alone in what they feel.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to Miami for a week, I’d show them the more chill side of the city — good food, live music, and beach days. We’d start with wings at Sports Grill or House of Wings, then check out Wynwood for the art, drinks at Gramps, and some local bands. For beach days, we’d skip the crowds and go to Crandon Park or Matheson Hammock to relax, swim, and just enjoy the view.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
want to dedicate my shoutout to my grandma — she’s the reason I have my singing voice and she always reminds me to keep following my dreams and always makes sure that I know she is proud of me. From the very beginning, when I was singing in high school choirs to now, she believes in me and encourages me to share my gift with others. Her influence is at the core of everything I do as an artist. I also want to give credit to my co-worker and producer, Jennifer Phan. She’s played such a huge role in bringing my music to life and making my creative dreams a reality. Every song we create together reminds me why I chose this path — it’s about connection, collaboration, and doing what you love with people who inspire you.
