Meet Elianet Guerra | Small Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Elianet Guerra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elianet, how do you think about risk?
Risk is essential when it comes to taking any chance on an open door in your life. Before going full time with my business, I was teaching full time as well. I was a third grade teacher for about 3 years. It felt like I found my calling, but I always knew that God had called me to do something deeper. My business was something that slowly started to grow more and more every year. Due to the fact that I had a full time job, I never could truly dive deep into it. Mostly, I never left for those three years, out of fear. Fear of failure, fear of not making enough to make ends meet. But, as someone who found God during that time, that fear, wasn’t ever from him, if anything he was pushing me for greater. He believed in me, when I didn’t. So with that, I tell you, take the risk, take the chance on yourself. Do not let the fear control you.

Within my small business, I make pretty much any personalized gift you can think of, but I mostly am known for cake toppers. I think that this niche has truly shown what I’m capable of making and how you can add a touch of magic to your birthdays or any occasion. Professionally, I would say I got to where I am due to my growth on Etsy. I went head first into Etsy and creating listings of different styles of cake toppers. Thankfully, my clients have always been a huge support and have loved what I’ve created through there. I can’t say it was easy, it’s not everyday you make a sale, and it’s not everyday you get the best reviews. There’s many outside factors you don’t see as a client, but struggle with as a small business owner. There’s shipping deadlines, packages lost in the mail, packages coming wet from unexpected rain, materials being discontinued, etc. Although there are challenges, there’s always a light at the end and that’s the passion you have to push through, to give your clients the best service. The biggest lesson I learned is, always work like it’s your biggest passion in life. If you don’t see that glimmer in you, take a rest day, focus on yourself, and then come back to the drawing board. What I would want the world to know about me and my story is that if you have faith in yourself, in your business, and most importantly in God, you will always prevail. You are your biggest cheerleader. Take that risk.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A perfect week: Start and end at Flanigan’s, grab morning coffee at Sergio’s, explore downtown, enjoy a beach day, and spend a full nature day on the trails. Since I’m more of a homebody, I’d definitely add a cozy movie night with snacks before wrapping up the week
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my friends and family who have always believed in my business and pushed me for more. I would also love to shoutout God for shining a light on this new path and season in my life, without that guidance, I would’ve still be stagnant.
