Meet Sonia Gadh | Founder & CEO, Scentia Building a premium home fragrance brand inspired by the world’s most memorable spaces, helping people create beautiful experiences through scent.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonia Gadh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sonia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
If I had to choose one thing, it would be persistence. Building a business is never a straight path. We’ve faced almost every challenge you can imagine—manufacturing issues, supply chain disruptions, product development setbacks, and intense competition. Every obstacle felt like a new problem to solve.
Instead of giving up or looking for excuses, we focused on finding solutions. I believe every problem has an answer if you’re willing to keep learning, adapting, and putting in the work. That mindset has shaped not only my journey as an entrepreneur but also our brand.
Success rarely comes from one breakthrough moment. It comes from showing up every day, solving one problem after another, and continuing to move forward even when things don’t go as planned. That persistence has been the foundation of everything we’ve built.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
To be honest, Scentia wasn’t born from a lifelong passion for home fragrance. It began as a business opportunity. Coming from a business-to-business background, we wanted to diversify into a completely new industry and partnered with someone who had experience in the fragrance space. Our original plan was to be passive investors while relying on their expertise.
As we got deeper into the business, we quickly realized that our vision, standards, and approach were very different. We believed in building a strong brand with a long-term focus on quality, customer experience, and continuous innovation, while our partner’s approach didn’t align with where we wanted to take the company. It became clear that if we wanted Scentia to succeed, we had to take full ownership of its future.
Making that decision meant stepping into an industry we knew very little about. We had no background in consumer ecommerce, luxury home fragrance, or building a direct-to-consumer brand. It was a steep learning curve, and every stage brought a new challenge—from product development and sourcing to branding, packaging, digital marketing, and customer experience.
There were countless moments when we questioned whether we had made the right decision. But once we committed, we made a promise to ourselves: if we were going to do this, we were going to do it well. We immersed ourselves in learning, listened closely to our customers, and treated every obstacle as an opportunity to improve.
Looking back, I’ve learned that success doesn’t come from having all the answers at the beginning. It comes from being willing to learn, adapt, and persevere when things don’t go according to plan. Every challenge forced us to become better entrepreneurs and, ultimately, build a stronger brand.
Today, what I’m most proud of isn’t just the products we’ve created—it’s the journey behind them. Scentia represents resilience, continuous improvement, and the belief that with enough determination, you can build something meaningful even when you start completely outside your comfort zone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the reasons I love living in Miami is that it truly has something for everyone. I moved to the United States from India and spent a few years in Chicago before eventually settling in Miami. While I enjoyed Chicago, Miami was the first place that truly felt like home.
I think it’s because of the city’s diversity and energy. The multicultural community, the warmth of the people, the beautiful homes, and the importance of relationships and personal connections all remind me, in many ways, of India. There’s a sense of familiarity here that made the transition feel natural.
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want them to experience not just the famous attractions, but the Miami lifestyle.
We’d start the mornings with a walk at South Pointe Park, followed by coffee overlooking the ocean. We’d spend time exploring Miami Beach and the Art Deco District, then enjoy dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants in Brickell, Coconut Grove, or Key Biscayne.
A visit to Wynwood is always on the list for its incredible street art and creative energy, followed by Little Havana for authentic Cuban coffee, great food, and live music. For a more relaxing day, we’d spend time in Key Biscayne, and if we had an extra day, we’d drive to the Florida Keys to enjoy one of the most scenic drives in the country.
What I love most about Miami is that it’s a city where people from around the world come together. It’s vibrant, entrepreneurial, and welcoming. For me, after coming from India and living in Chicago, Miami became more than just another city—it became the place where my family put down roots, where we built our business, and where we truly found a sense of belonging.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a doubt, I would dedicate my shoutout to my husband. Throughout our entrepreneurial journey, we faced challenge after challenge, and there were many moments when it would have been easy to give up. He was my pillar of strength—offering unwavering support, encouragement, and perspective when I needed it most. His belief in me gave me the confidence to keep moving forward.
I would also dedicate this to my children. Beyond being my greatest inspiration, they have given me a completely different perspective on how today’s customers think and shop. They constantly challenge me to look at our brand through the eyes of the consumer—from how our website should look and function, to how intuitive the user experience should be, to how we can better embrace technology. Their ideas have helped me stay connected to changing expectations and have influenced many of the decisions we’ve made as a brand.
Finally, I want to recognize the people who entered our lives at exactly the right time. Whether they were mentors, business partners, suppliers, friends, or customers, each person contributed something meaningful—an opportunity, a lesson, or a word of encouragement that helped us keep moving forward. Looking back, I truly believe that success is never built alone. It is the result of many people who believe in you, guide you, and help you become better. For that, I am deeply grateful.
