We had the good fortune of connecting with Catherine Hollingsworth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Catherine, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I take risks in my clinic every day, and I think the willingness to take risks is the thing that really makes my treatments effective. As an acupuncturist, I am trained with traditional theories and practices. To take a risk means to let go of the training wheels, or what the books say, and trust my impression of the person in the moment. I think this is the moment when an acupuncturist can deliver really powerful treatments, and truly step into their own personal gifts.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an acupuncturist specializing in mind-body health. I treat all kinds of conditions and often work with people who have multiple symptoms. I have found that acupuncture can be especially transformative for people who have anxiety or stress that is impacting daily life. I love what I do and am still surprised at how much growth and transformation can come through such a gentle intervention, The most challenging part of my career path has been getting started, having faith, trusting myself and putting in the effort, always, to be better and develop my craft. I want people to know that healing is possible, that natural medicine works wonders, and that health is not just about the physical body. Our minds can affect our bodies too. Healing with acupuncture may seem like magic or mystery but it is a powerful healing art that I am so proud to offer.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would suggest that they check out some of the off-the-beaten path places. I love the small Peruvian restaurants you can find on South Beach or across the bay. Panther Coffee is a big favorite, with lots of locations around the city. And I highly recommend our local galleries including Emerson-Dorsch and Iris PhotoCollective Art Space. We also have great performing arts in Miami. Most events are listed in the Miami New Times.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
