Meet Celia D. Luna | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Celia D. Luna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Celia D., what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
I disagree with the saying: “Work hard and hustle harder”. I’ve learned that life flows when you make your joy your priority, This doesn’t mean that you’re not working, it means that you’re consistent about applying joy into your life and in consequence, you’re a better entrepreneur, a better mother, a better daughter, a better person. Work is not driving you, joy is. Why make work your drive force when the beauty and real success (to me) is in the little moments.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a portrait and fashion photographer. I became a full time photographer after my divorce. I found myself again after a long relationship, and I also found my voice in photography. My work is inspired by women, diversity, color and culture. Like most beginnings, it was not easy but my drive to create was bigger than my fears. I remember seeing mostly male photographers in the industry making it big, and my motivation was asking myself: “Why can’t it be me?”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would start by by cruising around Coconut Grove and Coral Gables to show them all the beautiful canopy trees and houses. We’d stop at The Last Carrot for a healthy and yummy lunch and at Bombay Darbar for the best indian food in Miami. We would spend a beach day at South Pointe Park Pier, cruise around South Beach and drive a little north to have the best tacos at Taquiza and to check out a live music at the Bandshell. We would spend another day in Wynwood, have a mini photo-shoot around the murals, get a facial at Sana and have a drink at Lagniappe. Finally, we would have lunch at Mofongo in Little Havana, check out a movie at Tower Theater and play board games and have a delicious beet at Union Bar.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
