We had the good fortune of connecting with Jalisa Faye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jalisa, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a vocal coach and the Founder/CEO of Find Your Voice Coaching Services, my business helps the community/world by equipping singers, songwriters, and all-around performers with the confidence, technique and originality they need to show up and show out every time. In a time where the performance & entertainment industry has slowed down, many performers haven’t had a chance to truly exercise their gifts. My coaching allows them to grow in technique, gain confidence and also find THEIR voice. I’m amazed at how many singers feel so uncomfortable hearing themselves sing or haven’t even discovered their true sound/style. My job is to help them feel a level of confidence that will push them to their highest level of performance!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a singer/songwriter, producer AND owner/CEO of Find Your Voice Coaching Services, LLC (FYV Coaching). I launched FYV Coaching THIS YEAR (2020) in the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic, because I knew there was no better time to do it. I had already been working in the vocal coaching industry since 2016 and virtually coaching a few clients across the country for over a year. Teaching/coaching performers has always been a passion of mine and found its way into every aspect of my musical life since I was a kid. So I decided to get all my ducks in a row and really make it official this year. After enrolling in and graduating from The Empire University, FYV Coaching hit the ground running. It was definitely no easy feat, but I was determined to broaden my horizons and publicly offer my services to the world! I want performers to find THEIR voice, and not aim to sound exactly like their favorite artists. I push them to learn from their favorite artists, but be THEMSELVES. One of my goals in life is to impact as many people as I can in as many ways possible! Find Your Voice Coaching Services allows me to do just that, because I’m not just coaching people on how to sing better. I’m coaching them on how to build confidence, how to embrace who they are and their unique style, and how to push past those mental limitations they may have placed on themselves as people first, performers second. Every day, I grow in working with people with different personalities, upbringings, life experiences, and more! I also learn more about myself as a coach, teacher, mentor, etc. I LOVE what I do, and I aim to help other performers love what they do and HOW they do it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I LOVE GOOD FOOD. Food is the perfect hangout. So the hottest food spots we would visit are Shuckin & Jivin (@weshuckin), a cajun-themed takeout restaurant that gives you that GOOD Southern style cooking! A good fried fish dinner with cajun rice and double mac & cheese (along with their Nini Bread) would literally set it off! Then we’d follow that up with some BANGIN’ dessert from The Candy Girls Gourmet Sweets (@thecandygirls.co), a Cookies & Cream cake jar from them would literally be the perfect closer to that meal. We’d also visit Ms. B’s Tasty Tacos (@ms_b_tasty_taco) of course for Taco Tuesday! The vibe and the tacos are LIFE! Totally makes for a perfect date night or girls’ night out. And if it was a REALLY good week, we’d get some buffalo chicken egg rolls from City Rolls (@cityrolls.co)! Honestly because of COVID, we’d probably get takeout from all of these places and stay in and watch movies or Netflix.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to give a shoutout to my mother; without her I wouldn’t be who I am today. I want to shoutout T.RayMac: the one who hears all of my ideas first and pushes/supports me literally every single step of the way. He always has a way of adding to whatever I’m doing and taking it to the next level! I’m so grateful for him always being there in every capacity necessary! Another shoutout to Sarah Gracel, actress, singer, and owner & founder of The Candy Girls Gourmet Sweets for being my think tank partner, my business bestie & bestie in life! A shoutout to Ernisha Randolph (The Empire University), my sis, my business mentor! She literally changed my life and constantly gives me the tools I need to be a successful young, black female entrepreneur. Shoutout to my GNI girls, such a supportive tribe of young women. To my pastors, Pastors Ed & Yvette Brinson, for their guidance, covering, love and support! To Bonita McClary, Pastor Marc Cooper, Jonathan Nelson, James Fortune and others that have contributed to my growth, experience, knowledge, THANK YOU!
