Meet Derek Pratt | Celebrity Personal Trainer, Actor & Model

We had the good fortune of connecting with Derek Pratt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derek, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Over the years modeling for other brands and developing social media partnerships has motivated me to create a brand of my own. Having a degree in marketing and communications has been a huge help in the process as well. I have learned a lot about business and branding during my experience and I wanted to create a brand that represents me and what I’m all about: My business partner and I have spent all of 2020 creating and preparing for a big launch of DTP Collective January 2021.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an artist in every aspect of the word. Starting in high school I got into dance and theater which developed in to me pursuing both as minors in college. After college I moved to LA to pursue an acting career. While pursuing acting I was scouted to model and both turned into a full time job instantly. While modeling and acting my love for the fitness world also developed more and more over the years. This turned my focus into all 3 areas for work. Creating content for social media also became a big part of my job. I was and am always creating content. Consistency and hard work are so important if you want to really reach a larger audience and scale. It’s rare to see overnight success but if you are willing to work hard every day great things will happen. That’s the mentality that has helped me get to where I am in my life. This was also a big motivation for me to create my own brand that represents what I am all about. I want to use my platforms and brand to help motivate people and help them get that family feel and support system. Not everyone has a good support system and I want DTP Collective to be that for people. We all struggle in life and we are all human. My journey has not been easy but it has been an incredible learning experience no matter what. I try to apply all my life experiences into my personal growth which helps me to zone in on what is important in my life. I’m very blessed and thankful for my journey and excited for the next chapter in my life with my new Lifestyle and Athletic Brand DTP Collective.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first take them Hiking to Runyon Canyon. It’s a great way to see LA and get some exercise. Hiking is one of my favorite activities. Second we would spend the day at Universal City Hollywood. There is so much to do there we would be sure to spend the day. Next I would take them to the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach. This area is possibly one of the most beautiful in Southern California. It also has some amazing restaurants and bars that we would check out as well. Another staple would be taking them to Hollywood Blvd. It is a cool expletive walking down the street and seeing all of the Hollywood stars. There are also some cool stores and museums on the strip as well that are fun to check out. After a long couple days of nonstop fun and activity we would spend the rest of the time by the pool soaking up the sunshine and relaxing. I always like to have a nice balance in my life and would create that for my friends vacation as well!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my family for my success and where I am in my life today. If I didn’t have the love and support from them growing up I would be a completely different person. Their support system has been incredible since day one. I have always valued their opinions and my relationships with each of them. My family is a rock and we always have each others back. I have been blessed with opportunities to live in LA, Miami, & NYC since graduating from The University of Maine and it has been hard being away from them since going to college. No matter my decisions in my life to move away and pursue my dreams they have always been in my corner. Knowing I have their love and support is the most important thing in the world to me and an incredible feeling. Making them proud is the main goal in life. I would also like to shout out Christian Alexander and Front Management for scouting me years ago and getting me started on an incredible modeling career and helping me making a name for myself in the entertainment industry. They have became family over the years and I appreciate all of their hard work booking me on campaigns for some of the biggest brands and magazines in the world.
