Meet Monica Arellano: Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Arellano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica, how do you think about risk?
I believe that risk is sometimes necessary in order to achieve certain things in life. I would definitely not be where I am, had it not been for that leap of faith. I was doing something I really liked but after 5 years of being in the music industry, I realized I wanted something different. Mind you… I was working with the GRAMMYs so I had it pretty good! So the biggest risk I have taken in my life as been worth every second- and more of a reason for my risky move something unknown, Design. And it paid off incredibly!!! 

What should our readers know about your business?
Rednoir is a design studio. We do from interior design to event design and also rent furniture for both events and residential. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? It was definitely not easy to get to where we are now. Perseverance and adaptability. There were many times when I was ready to quit but instead of holding on to something that was not working out, took a step back and re-arranged. I had to adapt and find ways to make things work even if it was not exactly what I originally had in mind. What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? Given that I am a control freak, one big lesson is that it’s okay to not have everything according to plan and to open yourself to alternatives, which in my experience have open even more doors than I imagined. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? Our brand is about pushing the boundaries and perspectives of how things should look. Every design project must have it’s voice. A story. We want the world to losen up with the notion of how things should look (cookie cutter) and open up to the possibilities of creative spaces.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmmm! This is a hard question after hibernating for almost a year with this terrible pandemic. Places in general to walk around and explore: Wynwood of course, Brickell and Design district. Restaurants: Leku, Pinch Kitchen, Ghee, Plant, Boia De. Activities: I’d definitely rent a boat at least for one day, PAMM, Do the metro mover throughout downtown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ohh It would be so hard because I realize it took a village of efforts support and encouragement from many of my dear friends and people along the way. My Parents and husband of course, have been there for me from the beginning of it all with unconditional and endless support. I would love to give a shout out to my very dear friend, college and partner Wade Hallock, who took me under his wing and made me believe in myself and has pushed and continues to push me to do more and never settle.
