Meet Camden Colwell | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Camden Colwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camden, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
At a relatively young age I could see that adults around me working 9 – 5 jobs weren’t very happy and didn’t seem fulfilled in their occupation. I didn’t want to become like any of those people, I felt like I had more to offer the world than just working in a cubicle until I died. Doing something that I genuinely enjoy for the rest of my life seemed more appealing than just clocking in at some pointless dead end job.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that my photos speak for themselves, they are unique and bring a sense of surrealism to our mundane lives. I’m really proud of my ability to interact with all kinds of people in a professional setting, I can communicate ideas and instructions in a friendly manner while ensuring the clients comfortability, which I think is a defining feature that has allowed me to advance to where I am today. Being a creative is anything but easy, between financial hardships, creative blocks, and difficult people, you are constantly running into barriers. With time you come to learn from your previous mistakes and faults which then makes your job a little easier. I’ve learned to be more patient in the recent years, there are no handouts, time as well as hard work will bring you what you desire. I want the world to know that I’m just getting started, the next 5 years will be full of new faces and new opportunities that I can’t wait to share.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you’ve been to Miami you know it’s overflowing with great views as well as some amazing food. I would first take them to the Perez art museum which is my favorite museum in the area with installations that will open your mind to a new world of contemporary art. Then we would go to tacology in brickell for some expensive but tasty food. The next spot would be the design district, everywhere you go there is luxury and colorful art. There is a huge indoor market with 10-15 different food options to choose from, as well as a quaint ice cream shop. Walking the streets of brickell, midtown, bayside, etc. are fun activities for those not looking to spend much money. Lastly we would take a drive to oleta state park where you can kayak, bike, or just tan at the beach for hours on end.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this to all of my friends and family who constantly supported my dreams and my craft. Without the people around me I would never have the opportunity to share my photography with the world, I couldn’t have done it alone. Specifically my father, who always provided financial stability allowing me to purchase equipment, and my mother who never doubted my skills and gave me the emotional support I needed to take on this career.
