We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Ricart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Creating balance is something that I made early on in my career – I consider myself an hedonist and I get nurtured by close relationships so making time for that and self care was always a big priority. And given what we as a collective been through, I think that everyone is becoming more conscious about creating this balance.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Almost Basic company is an Interior Design Studio that was born out of my necessity to formalize my creative endeavors. Being a solo-preneur was not always easy, but creating a life for yourself, at your own terms and your own set of values, has no price. My business evolved with me, turning my practices to sustainability, Biophilic design, Feng Shui, incorporating spirituality and my personal development to it. I thrive creating spaces that people not only find beautiful, but also brings them joy. From a home, to a restaurant, to a hotel, I work hard to design enjoyable, balanced, happy places. No matter my involvement in the project, from a simple consultation, to a full on renovation or construction from ground up, I will ensure that this is my goal, and I achieve it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hosting – my favorite. I carry a list in my notes with places that I love, and places that I want to try. For art, first place that comes to my mind is the Rubell Museum in Allapatah, a short distance from the crowded Wynwood and you get to see a magnificent international collection in a beautiful and enormous venue. Talking about Wynwood, my guests LOVE Astra for sunset drinks, the design is super nice as well. Keeping it up with art, another collection I love is De La Cruz, at the Design District, and since you are on the area, you can have a coffee in OTL. To teleport fast and tasty to Greece, Mandolin Aegean is one of my favorite restaurants of all time, food is amazing, and the place is beautiful. I would definitely go south, to the peacocky area of Coconut Grove and have brunch at Greenstreet Cafe, walk around the area after. For any meal with a view, try La Mar in Brickell Key, and don’t fail to visit the Brickell City Centre (designed by Arquitectonica Architecture), a mall with a view and a fresh breeze. And Lagniappe, a crowd’s favorite. If you are a Miami first timer – I will take you to people watch on Ocean Drive after a beach day, to have those touristy giant drinks and watch the city at its most extravagant state. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a huge shoutout to The Goodyear Agency, based in Miami, that helped and guided me through my brand transformation after the big personal shift I had during the quarantine and wanted reflected in my brand: they nailed it in all aspects, facilitating me to understand my brand better, my clients, my communications and image.
