We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucy Drew and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lucy, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was eye level with the Mc Donald’s counter back in the ninety’s my mother told me she looked down and saw the glimmer of the shiny silver surface catch my wild eyes. She recounts me taking a long look at the surface. As I inched closer to the counter she thought to herself, “Oh surely she’s not going to…” Just like that my tongue latched on to that metal and gave it a big ole’ exploratory lick. From the time I remember I could smell colors, taste sounds, and hear pictures. Tactile is the tip of the iceberg with me. There are billions of creatives out marching around out on this globe and I find that exciting. The stories that break my heart are those artists who, by people in their lives, are discouraged, mocked, and even directly denied. The stories that light me up are the ones who despite all of that nonsense persisted. I’d like to give a large shout out to a couple of my favorite people to ever exist, my parents. I’d like to give them some kind of award. Maybe I’ll sculpt one up and title it, “I actually took into account what my child’s best interests are and then proceeded to not only support those needs, no matter how different from my own, but encourage those needs with zeal.” My folks recognized early on, “Okay we have a live one! This is not a drill! She’s expressive… she’s a wild stallion… she’s a rocket to Mars… she’s the Autobahn!” and put me immediately into theater classes and art camps as early as six years old. From then on I’ve only delved deeper into the world of the arts and because of this had the honor of being inspired, taught, and collaborated with some of the most extraordinary people I could have ever dreamed of. Why did I pursue a creative career? The simple answer is because it just made sense. If some one came up to you and went, “Man I am so hungry I think I might fall over and die,” and there was a stunning charcuterie board right in front of them, what would you tell them to do? I hope to God you answered with, “Lucy, I’d tell them to eat that charcuterie board.” Creativity leaves plenty room for logic. When someone is creative it is blatantly obvious. It is quite logical that they should then journey on and share an experience through their art. To me, that is what art is, an experience not a lecture. If you encounter someone, maybe even your own kin, who is creative, please encourage them. Even if we ran a scan on your noggin and your left side is the only thing active in there since your origin here on Earth, please take a moment to appreciate an artist. We certainly appreciate you. I tell people in the medical field, “THANK YOU!” every time I encounter them, because if it was left to me we’d be in trouble. Art is a very important part of our world. It is my first love and I can’t live without it, no matter what the form.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been acting since I was six years old. So that comes out to 22 years! I love entertainment. It is my passion. I write, produce, direct, and act. You can check out my comedy, characters, and other entertainment materials on my website, Youtube, and Instagram listed. The entertainment industry is extremely inundated with talented individuals excited to share their talents with the world. This makes it extraordinarily difficult to get your chance. I have probably been to 1,000 meetings, auditions, classes, workshops, and panel discussions over my career journey and I am still climbing. What I quickly realized a long time ago is that no one is begging you to do any of this. In fact, I don’t recall booking anything yet. So what I have done is create. That’s what I do best. I make my own comedy sketches. I make my own TV pilots. I make my own original characters and film them and this is all I can control. I don’t think things, I physically do them. I am proud of the body of work I have generated all on my own accord. One day the iron will strike and because I have kept busy I know I’ll be prepared. In the mean time if anyone has any job of any kind, truly any kind, any job, not kidding at all, so long as it is not something like Only Fans or cleaning in my underwear please email me at ldrew417@me.com. I have recently illustrated and written a children’s recipe picture book. Full of nutritional, creative, and fun ways to mangia! It is called Food Friends, by your friend Lucy Drew, and can be purchased by emailing ldrew417@me.com. See photo attached.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First and foremost, we eat Tocaya! When all else fails, we eat Tocaya. I would probably have us get it takeout and eat on the grounds of the LACMA museum picnic style. Then head inside to take a look at the art. I would also take them on a hike at Griffith and then go in and check out the observatory. We would for sure head over to Malibu and grab take out from Malibu Seafood Fresh Fish Market & Patio Cafe and then eat it on the beach. Two more of my favorite food spots are KazuNori that serves unbelievable hand rolls and Kye’s Montana. I get the Macro wrapped in lettuce at Kye’s. Great coffee can be found at Alfred’s and great health conscious desserts can be found at Erewhon Market grocery store. I also love Erewhon’s sushi. The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills is a great museum of all things entertainment. They have amazing exhibits and admission is free (they accept donations instead). Right next door you’ll find The Farm at Beverly Hills where you will need to try the best sweet potato fries you’ll ever have. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There was a Saint of a man named Lucious Newsom who was the leader of all the volunteer work at my church growing up. He said something I’ll never forget and it was along the lines of, “You think you can go about this world alone? Think you don’t need anyone’s help and don’t owe anyone your help? Then you can start by paying your mother nine month’s rent.” Life is a collaboration. From the moment we are brought into existence, we need help. Hell, it takes two people to create life to begin with. I have been helped exponentially over the years. Countless mentors, friends, and family alike. I can also thank the people who have turned me down. Thank you for fanning my flame. I encourage anyone reading this to help others in any way you can. It will never fail you.
