Meet Aroon Duncanson | Social Media Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aroon Duncanson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aroon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think having your own business is all about taking risks. Every day you take a risk and it’s something you have to get used to. It’s easy to get into the 9-5 mindset with a steady pay every week, but when you have your own business you have to continue to improve and expand, and each month your pay could differ from the next. So it’s always a risk, but it’s totally worth it. When I fully transitioned from my office job, to my own social media marketing company, Plastics Media, it was a scary risk, but I knew I was passionate about my business and I trusted that it would all work out from there.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, Plastics Media, is a social media marketing agency. I mostly specialize in Instagram marketing for businesses, with a focus in the beauty industry. I think what makes me stand out, is the fact that I am behind every aspect of my clients social media. I personally go into the locations, take photos and videos, I edit the content myself, post and caption, literally EVERYTHING! I love this aspect of my business and I know my clients do as well. It really allows me to understand their goals and business, inside and out, and help when creating the content and portraying the image they want.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always take my guests to Soho Beach House for a fun beach day, with some frose and Vegan Burgers for lunch. Then I would plan a day to take out my inflatable kayak to a little island and drink some canned cocktails, and pack a lunch. For dinner, maybe walk around Wynwood and get a delicious mojito and dine at Bakan. Bakan has the best mushroom quesadillas and guacamole.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom! She has always been my inspiration and I’ve learned SO much from her growing up. My mother, Megan Duncanson, is a super successful artist and runs her business entirely by herself. Growing up I would always help my mom out in little ways and she would teach me different skills, like Photoshop, Shopify, Website Building Platforms and so much more. These skills were all things I did not learn in school and they play such an important role in the work I do today. Honestly, my mom has taught me just as much as school, when it comes to the work I do.
