We had the good fortune of connecting with Seymone Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Seymone, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a new business owner, I would simply just say “Create Your Own Lane” ! This is literally my motto for everything in relations to how I’m building my business inside and out . Don’t focus on what others are doing and how they are doing it because your path, the way your business will be built is based on what is destined for YOU. Some people grow faster than others, some people struggle more than others, but YOU can’t let that stop or slow you down because you’re trying to “Fit In” or you feel obligated to take the same steps the next person has. Last thing I would say is always bet on yourself meaning, if you need to spend a little more to get the better quality of a product or even more quantity so you know you supply is there, then do so. You never know what can happen. It’s better to stay ready rather then get ready !
What should our readers know about your business?
My business MADE x SJ is an Apparel brand dedicated to inspire women entrepreneurs who’s side hustle is their main hustle. I, myself am a Entrepreneur who does not work a 9-5pm, but focused on building my own business without needing or wanting to go back to working a “regular” job. What sets me apart is simple, I’m creating my own lane. I’m not focused about no one else’s brand, i’m not focused on the “competition” because I know that I was given this vision to build this brand, so there are no worries on my end. I know the path God created for my business has been made and I am following that path. From being fired in January of 2019 (4 months pregnant) , to now getting ready to launch my business, I definitely can say that my story is unique to me and will help those who feel inspired by it. Of course the transition was not easy because for someone who is technically the “first” entrepreneur in my family, it definitely took my family some getting used to but they have definitely been super supportive. What I’ve learned so far is that what the world shows and regardless of the doubters, God always has me covered and without Him, I wouldn’t be where I am, seriously ! What I want everyone to know is that you CAN do whatever your heart desires. If you have an idea or venture you randomly just thought of or you’ve been sitting on, go explore it. If you asked me 2 years ago that I would be a owner of an apparel brand, I would really think you were crazy. I literally had no desires to start a business in the realm of tshirts/apparel… so trust me what you are doing today can definitely change tomorrow.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well luckily for any who visits where I stay, they would have a ton to do, because I stay where everyone else vacations ! Miami is of course known for the beaches, clubs and all the hot spots in places like south beach, wynwood, brickell and some things in fort lauderdale. If you asked me though, I’m very simple. To keep it straight to the point, the beach I recommend is hallandale beach… it’s quiet, less people and easy to finding parking to be honest. When it comes to food spots, I haven’t experienced much food places or the “popular” places because again, I’m very simple. 1 area I would recommend is “The shops at Pembroke Gardens” , not only can you shop til you drop, but their are some great food options you can explore and it’s in a great area you can take pictures and just have a relaxing day outing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would give a shoutout to first and foremost GOD, He has always led me in the right direction and continues to do so ! 2nd is my Husband Bryan, my biggest supporter. He always pushes me to do more and be more than I limit myself too and is beyond helpful with everything I do . Lastly is to my son Kaynen, the reason why I’ve been able to push myself harder than ever, the reason why I grind 24/7 no matter how tired or restless I am.
