We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Karl and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
End goal is to create hundreds of studios to help as many people as possible. Our goal is to create a national and even international community that shares the same values of health, wellness and happiness.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We pride ourselves on community. We have been lucky enough to surround ourselves with the people that make this company what it is today. It is amazing to see, all of our staff and trainers and clientele all hang out. We do not want to be the place where you come take a class and then leave. We want to be the place where you come take a class and hangout after. Our Kamps family is what drives us and makes us strive to be better and continue to grow. After college I attended law school at the University of Miami. I was working out everyday and really found something that I loved to do. It became a passion. After passing the bar and practicing law for almost two years, my brother and I started Kamps. My brother attended NYU Real Estate school and was working with my father right before Kamps was created. We took his real estate side and my legal and fitness side and created Kamps. Definitely a scary jump from the corporate world, but we love what we do and we have always wanted to start a business together, so it is almost like a dream come true. It was definitely not easy. Coming up with a new concept in a new demographic in a new city was difficult. We definitely made mistakes, but that made us grow to who we are today. We learned from our mistakes and Kamps has only grown stronger because of it. I want people to know that we are a family owned business. My brother and I are trying to build something from the ground up with the right people. Everything that we do is to help others. That our clients come first and we are always there for them whether they are trying tor each any fitness goal or if they just want to chat about something personal going on in their lives. I can stress enough that we love our Kamps community and we are excited to have it grow!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami has wayyyyy to many places to just knock it down to a few, but I will try. Definitely start with a boat day, show them all around Miami Beach and Stiltsville on the boat. Have a few drinks and spend some time with some friends on the boat, not much beats that. Maybe for an afternoon drink or evening outside. I am a big food guy so I will take them to some of my favorite places. Joe’s is obviously number one, cannot have someone come to Miami and not take them there. I also love Bellini in the Grove. Keeping it in the Grove, maybe for a brunch or a good outdoor drink spot, I have always been a fan of Green Street. My local gems that only us Miami people really know about are Havana Harry’s, Mojito Grill and Chicken Kitchen. Can beat those. Lastly, spending the day on the beach. Soho house or the One Hotel are great spots to relax and have some food or drinks. Definitely can always go to some outdoor spots like Riverside or the Warf. So many things to do but those are some things I love to do.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely our father. He has been an inspiration for hard work, caring for others and starting our own business. He created his own business and we watched him work his a** off in order to become successful. He has taught us how to act in business, how to treat others and how to do things the right way.
