Meet Tina Jaramillo and Hillary Dougherty | Co-Hosts of The Muck Podcast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Jaramillo and Hillary Dougherty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tina and Hillary, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Our podcast came to fruition out of our love of politics and true crime. When we set out to start the podcast, we knew that the true crime genre was pretty saturated, and realized that we needed to find a niche. We are both political nerds and spend a lot of what little free time we have volunteering for various organizations in our communities. So, we decided to merge these two loves of ours, and we created the only true crime podcast with a political twist.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We started this podcast to share scandalous stories in the world of politics. And each episode we delve into the psychology of the political mind and examine where integrity ends and corruption begins. Our podcast is conversational, so listeners get to listen in as we dish the dirt about a past or sometimes current political hijinks. And, what sets us apart from other political or historical shows is our approach to the material. Our show is not a boring lecture–we shout and scream and laugh in real time as we share our stories with each other. And, we’ve continued to grow as creators. We understand that success comes with a growth mindset. We now also host a bi-weekly segment called Li’l Muck where we interview community leaders, changemakers, politicians, journalists and more who are doing amazing things in their communities. Just recently, we interviewed Representative Val Demings. Li’l Muck allows us to move away from the seedy world of politics to shine a light on good things happening. What we want most is for people to give the show a listen and descend into the muck with us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here in Fort Lauderdale there are so many great places famous for good times, and a trip to Laudy would definitely include hitting old favorites like The Elbo Room at the beach and taking in shows at the Poor House downtown. For good eats, Beach House in Pompano Beach with its gorgeous oceanfront views and amazing food is a must. There is no better place to people watch than sitting on that wall that runs along A1A. And, a trip to Fort Lauderdale would not be complete without a ride on the Water Taxi. This boat ride moves up and down the Intercoastal through rivers once traveled by the indigenous Seminole tribe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The podcast community has been such a wonderful support system for us. We’ve been able to foster relationships with other podcast hosts and everyone is always willing to share tips and tricks. From swapping promos to guest appearances, the opportunity to learn and grow in this community is endless. We are so grateful for the wonderful connections we’ve made in the past year and a half.
