We had the good fortune of connecting with King Soloman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi King, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind my success is the belief that I have in myself. Even before I released music, I had the attitude that no matter what I do, I will always believe in my creativity. No matter if it was a song, a logo, a performance, an Instagram post, or even one simple lyric, if I put my effort into the creation, I knew It would be something special. I believe in myself simply because you must be your number one supporter and encourager in order to truly succeed in your work. Obviously it helps when you have support from your fans and followers and its important that you have engagement from them but, it’s ideal to have so much belief in yourself that hypothetically if you had only one fan you would still have the level of confidence as if you had 100,000 fans. It might seem a little far-fetched but If you believe in something, it will work, even if no one else believes in it. At first, give it some time to develop and then they will understand and show support towards your passion. Obtaining and maintaining this attitude is a recipe for success that can transpire across any job, skill, or hobby.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To sum everything up, I am a rapper, songwriter, lyricist, artist, and performer. What sets me apart is the fact that I rap about relatable topics that have substance teaching the listener wisdom and knowledge that they can use during their everyday life, as opposed to just rapping about money, cars, and materialism. I like to have a feeling of diversity in my music and I feel that its something really special to my sound. Ive been creating music for about 6 years now and releasing it publicly for 3 years. Recently one of my songs “Hands of Time” reached 100,000 plays on Spotify and currently its over 120,000 plays and counting. To me this was a major achievement because it was my first song to ever receive 100,000 plays on Spotify. It really showed me that I must continue to work hard creating music along with bringing me great joy that one of my songs could impact so many people. A lot of my listeners reached out to me and told me how my song impacted their life and how they learned so many lessons from my lyrics. It was a really humbling experience and it really shows you what music is about. In music you experience challenges everyday, and when you have a moment like this you feel like one of the challenge was conquered. In the beginning no one took my seriously with the music because they thought I was just another wannabe rapper and I used that as motivation to get me to where I am today. I was just someone who was trying to make music as a way to reflect on my life but once I realized that I was very passionate about creating music, I shifted all my energy to just that. Starting out it was tough for me to get shows. No one wanted to pay me and I had to earn my right in order to charge for gigs but I didn’t care about the money at the time I just wanted to practice performing and by taking the gigs even if they were free, I was able to practice my routine and really come up with something consistent that I could use for any of my shows. As my following built up across social media and more people started to listen to my music I was able to gain some attention and this in return helped me find new gigs which were able to pay me some money to perform. It was great because not only did I make get cash but I was also able to expand my reach to new people who showed up at the events and watched me perform. When corona virus first hit it sucked because I was finally building up momentum with my performances and then everything just stopped. I definitely had to find other ways to generate income so I started doing songwriting camps, features for other artists, and even sold merchandise to get by. When you can’t get paid gigs or sell merchandise at venues you really start to question how you can sustain yourself. Relying on streaming strictly is tough, even superstar artists know this to be true. Luckily I was able to start getting gigs and hosting parties because I live in Florida. This really saved me. The one thing I want people to know about my brand is that main goal is to motivate you to be the best version of yourself and be happy with the life you live. I believe that my lyrics can serve as a solid foundation to give people the motivation they are looking for. Follow your passion and don’t make excuses, there will always be a solution to the problem. If I can teach you lessons and you apply it to your everyday life then my job is done. Listen to my dictation while I spit you an education.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First place I would take them would be to either Wynwood in Downtown Miami or Mass District in Fort Lauderdale. I feel like both vibes are very unique to South Florida and thats the first place I would want me friend to visit. Some dope places in wynwood are shots, wood tavern, coyotes taco, and the wynwood art walls are a must see. In Mass District I would recommend glitch barcade, rec room, the hub, and the Mass District Artwork that they do on the last Saturday of every month. Next I would take them to bayside marketplace on a speed boat tour or one of the party boats. Maybe even grab a bite to eat, there are at least 10 popping restaurants in that area. If they want an island vibe I would take them to key Biscayne to check out the lighthouse right on the beach, enjoy the Florida sunshine and hopefully see some manatees swim close by. If they like an adventure, I definitely recommend a private airboat ride across the everglades with my good friend Mac’s Fish Camp. You will be able to see Gators and one of a kind Florida wildlife, and you might even stop on a private island In the middle of the everglades. For food I would check out house of Mac in wynwood. Posh sushi in Fort Lauderdale and believe me that sushi is off the hook, hands down best sushi spot I ever been to in my life and I mean that. Kiki on the river in downtown Miami is also a popular vibe and one of my low-key coffee shops would be aroma cafe in Aventura. Last thing, before you leave Miami, you gotta rent a boat and go to either haulover sandbar or Nixon beach sandbar, and experience a day on the water. You will never want to leave, you might even see dolphins. And if you still have energy to go to the club after I recommend LIV, Story, Space, Eleven, or Sway. Thats if they are even open. If you really want to hit up a club in South Florida contact @baarmachluf on instagram he will help you out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my good friend Tariq Allen who is an excellent music producer & trumpeter. We both went to high school together, and it was there that we started our musical journey together. At the time we didn’t release any music but fast forward 2 years later and he was the Chief Executive Producer for my Debut Album NYC 2 MIA. Tariq has been with me since the beginning and we still continue to work. Another business that deserves a shoutout is Revel Relations they handle all my press releases, video premieres, and radio guest appearances. My publicist Amanda Gabrielle is the CEO of the company and since we started working together I’ve had zero complaints. They help me push King Soloman to the world and they are a great team. My Engineer Renzo in Miami is also someone who deserves a lot of credit in helping me evolve as an artist. He’s helped me learn about my sound and most importantly how to get the most out of my voice. Renzo is a highly educated & talented musician who’s worked with some of the most prolific artists in the music scene. Im forever grateful and honored to have his presence in my music. Last but not least my last shoutout goes to The Lucrative Youth a local studio located in North Miami where I do majority of my recording, mixing, and mastering. As of late they helped me film & produce 2 music videos along with hosting 2 of my release parties. The Lucrative Youth is a one stop shop for artists where they can create content in an environment which enriches their creative energy. Theres a reason why I spend most of my time at this studio.
