We had the good fortune of connecting with Betsy Castro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Betsy, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
When you’re an entrepreneur, healthy and positive habits are a MUST in order to succeed in business. I have a variety of habits that play a role in the success of my business. But the one that has helped me the most is doing my weekly reviews. Every Sunday night, I sit down with my planner, I look through the pages and take a look at how my past week went, and the first thing I look at is everything that went well for me, any positive wins, goals, or things I got done during the past week. Entrepreneurs tend to be overachievers, and when we don’t complete a task from our “To-Do List” by Sunday night, we tend we beat ourselves up, we feel guilty, ashamed, and sometimes even angry that we could not achieve more. Which makes us feel defeated and “not cut out” to be an entrepreneur. So, when I make space to take a look at the things that went well or got completed, it brings forth this energy of self-accomplishment or being proud of myself, that automatically will put me in a good space. Then I look at some areas in my week I could improve on, such as may be waking up a little earlier or delegating some tasks to my team instead of doing it myself. Then I look at tasks that have been lingering in my agenda that keeps getting push back, if I keep pushing back a task over 2-3 weeks, I have a conversation with myself and decide if this is something important or not (if I’ve been pushing it for over 2 weeks, chances are that is not important). If I decide that it is important, then I must decide if I will do this myself or delegate it to someone else, at this point, the best option should be to delegate it to someone else, but if its something I cannot delegate then I give myself one more week to complete and if I still do not complete it by the of the week, then it needs to be removed from my to-do list. Otherwise, every week I will beat myself up for a task that I did not complete, that probably does not serve me in the first place (otherwise I would have already done it) Doing weekly reviews gives me focus on what are my next steps, what I must delegate, and what needs to be removed from my to-do list because is just a distraction or a burden.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I’m the founder of The Mental Health Virtual Agency, which works under Hello BetsyAnn. We are a virtual agency that provides support to Psychologists and Therapists in Private Practice. We provide a variety of support from Administrative, to Digital Marketing, from billing to funnel creation, project management, and more. I mainly started my business because I wanted freedom and flexibility, and I chose to work with mental health providers because I respect the work that they do. I believe family dynamics are the root of fixing many political and societal problems. Working with therapists puts me in a position where I can help spread mental awareness thru the knowledge of my clients and my social media strategies. What sets me apart from the rest of other Virtual Agencies or Virtual Assistants, is that I have a passion for Psychology and self-improvement. I have a major in Psychology and Business Administration, which is the combination I needed to start my business. Many people ask me why I don’t just become a therapist myself, but truth be told, my dream is to help in big masses, and provide free mental health care to those who cannot afford it. And honestly, I cannot live off giving free therapy. So, instead, I help therapists build their private practice, I use their platform to help spread awareness. I’ve also been lucky enough to establish great relationships with my clients and other mental health providers who know sponsor my free summits either by being a panelist or connecting me with other providers who are willing to participate in my free virtual summits. Lately, I’ve been engaging a lot on the unfairness of rape victims, due to the horrible rape culture society we live in, therefore, I hosted a virtual summit called “Crushing Rape Culture & Sexual Assault” in which clients and relationships I’ve built in my entrepreneur journey help me curate and bring free resources to people in need.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I recently moved to a different state (GA), so if a friend came to visit me here, it would be a new journey for me as well. The first thing we would do is eat, so we can have the energy to explore the city. Then we would go to a museum to learn, and culture ourselves, after the museum we would go somewhere to connect with nature, like a mountain or a hiking trip, we would take snacks so we can have a picnic in our hiking trip. A good trip for me must include food, preferably something local, so being that I’m currently in Georgia, I would go for something southern. Education is a daily thing for me, so a museum is a must. Connecting with nature is another must thing to do during trips and vacations, so, if I were back in Florida I would go to Hollywood Beach Boardwalk. In Georgia, I would go to Stone Mountain or Lake Lanier.
