We had the good fortune of connecting with Raphael Federici and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raphael, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My desire was to do something original that don’t had seen before. As an artist, I chose to do a scouting on the different styles of my competitors, in order to understand what worked best. Once I did my “sourcing” I started to create my own style and establish a long term strategy. By structuring my strategy, I was able to rely on a guideline, which allowed me to create freely without ever being too scattered.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what has met me apart from other artists is that I am not looking to make a living with art. I am like a child when I create, and I just enjoy myself. I do what I would like to see in another artist. On the other hand, I use a strategy that I imagined from the start, so that all my creations can be turned into works to buy or collect. I even do derivative products. I am proud to never have betrayed myself and to have remained in my “delirium” from the beginning without being afraid to attack taboo subjects or to speak about subjects like God for example… I like to do a job which to really meaningful, which delivers messages to humanity, without ever losing the fun and aesthetic aspect … I think that the fact of really knowing how to draw is also a strength when you make art … I got there because I have always worked a lot, produced a lot, but above all because I gave the keys to the store to God who took the orders. Without Him, it was very hard, because I had to suffer financially and work a lot, often getting ripped off, despised or discouraged. But I never imagined giving up. I always knew that I would never be able to do anything else, so I never gave myself a choice … It was to live off my art, or die of my art. the biggest lesson I have learned is to rely on God and never give up … Having a vision is extremely important. As long as we keep it in mind, we are indestructible! I know for a fact that one day my work will be known worldwide. This is what keeps me hooked on my work. I want the world to remember my job as that of someone who kept common sense in a world running wild. An artist who was not afraid to talk about God and the beautiful things in life, and who knew how to keep the power of the message before that of the aesthetic.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot is definitely Wynwood … Especially during the Miami Art Basel events … I would take them around the Acaï bars, stop by Lulu Laboratorium concept store, do a little shopping, Visit the Street art paint outside, then go and land in one of the many neighborhood terraces …
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank God, to whom I have given all my hopes, all my ambitions and the keys to my career.
