Meet Kamia Hayes | Mindset Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamia Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamia, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My business helps the world because I am in the business of raising up women of CONFIDENCE. As a Mindset Coach, I have found that the reason why most people are not successful has absolutely nothing to do with their abilities or knowledge. A lot of people are not successful because they lack the confidence needed to step out of their comfort zone. You waste time doing all the things, hoarding all of the knowledge, but the place to start is with CONFIDENCE because without it, there will be no application of what you have learned.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of by Kamia Hayes, a coaching firm who’s main focus is on mindset. Growing up, I’d always want to know the “why” behind things. I wasn’t that child that you could answer “because I said so!” I needed more than that. Now I can totally understand how wanting to get to the root of a thing was connected to my assignment as an adult.
I started my business as a makeup artist, and transitioned into coaching a few years later. Initially, I wanted to make sure that I was the best, so I invested in lessons and coaching by some of the best artists in the industry, only to come back home and be afraid to share my work on social media. I gave away A LOT of free or discounted services because if someone decided not to hire me because my rate was out of their budget, I would take it personal. I thought that my business was not growing because I needed to invest in higher ticket coaching programs, or take just one more course, training, or webinar and then I’d be ready. When I would invest in different trainings, I’d get the same advice, “just be you”, but for some reason, that was one of the hardest things that I could do.
One day, the lightbulb came on! Well, actually, the Holy Spirit convicted me! “Do not pay for NOT ONE more course or training until you go back and work through the ones you already have!!!!” See, by then, I had become addicted to knowledge, but I was not a finisher! My audible was FULL of books that I hadn’t finished! My Kajabi accounts were FULL of courses that weren’t complete and my credit card was almost maxed out because of all of the things that I had purchased thinking that it would help me to get ahead in business. The truth of the matter is that I was trying to BUY something that only God could provide! CONFIDENCE! After that revelation, I began to finish some of the things that I started and God showed me that in this season, I need to help women realize that they need to START HERE! Start with confidence because in order to apply pressure, you have to apply knowledge.
Although I am HEAVY on the Jesus, I am also down to earth. In a session with me, my clients feel more like they’re having a conversation with one of their girls. I use scripture because I understand the source of confidence, but I am extremely transparent, which is what makes me more relatable. Every interaction with my clients are rich because in a world full of “fluff”, someone has to bring the “meat!” There was a time when I use to say that I’m not really that “deep”, but I really am! I’m just not so deep that I won’t come to the shallow parts, grab your hand, and bring someone out there with me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I use to say that I am from a small town in Central Florida (Lakeland); however, our city has grown so much over the last few years. I am very simple, so for me, I would recommend going to breakfast at one of my favorite spots in Downtown Lakeland (Frescos), and then walking down Kentucky Avenue to see what’s for sale at the weekend Farmer’s Market on a nice Saturday morning.
Since we are so close to Orlando, a week would not be complete without a bit of shopping, so we would definitely hit up the Mall at Millenia and probably spend the entire day there, which is fine because we can take breaks to eat and get a snack. International Drive is a definite MUST and we have to stop in to Coopers Hawk for a good steak and bottle of Sangria!
Now after that friend, you’re pretty much on your own because when I “vacation” I like to spend a couple of days doing absolutely nothing LOL…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
While there are MANY people that I could shout out and give recognition in my story, the main characters in my story is my Hayes & Co crew (my husband and children). They are truly why I do what I do. I am a wife and mother of 6, my “A Team” is my older 3 children and they are so pivotal to my journey because we literally grew up together. They taught me about responsibility and made me want to be MORE! They have motivated me, pushed me, affirmed me, and demanded me to be who I am called to be.
My husband has been so patient with me when it comes to building my brand. He has sacrificed quality time (his primary love language) so that I can do the things necessary to keep things rolling business wise. He has been a sounding board for most of my ideas, even though he had NO idea how I was going to bring those things to fruition. This life, this business would not have been possible if it were not for his support so shout out to him!
Lastly, my “B Team” which are my 3 babies who keep me on my toes. I feel like they were my opportunity to right some of the wrongs that I had with my first set because now I am older and wiser. They are seeing mommy in action when it comes to business. I am intentional about bringing them into rooms with me so that they can normalize entrepreneurship.
Collectively, my family is my WHY! They are the reasons that I don’t quit. I am determined to show them that the possibilities are endless!
