We had the good fortune of connecting with Magela Pons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Magela, how does your business help the community?
ELLA PONS is a mother-daughter business that combines both my mom’s vision (Mariela) and mine (Magela). Our collections are locally developed in Miami, consciously and sustainably. From the use of eco-friendly fabrics – be them organic, recycled and/or biodegradable; to conscious and local manufacturing, to efforts in reducing waste as much as possible and achieving carbon neutrality. We have set goals to achieve circularity within the coming years, and are continuously researching ways of giving back with every piece that is purchased from us.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Our attention to detail is what sets our brand apart, with a special emphasis on the pattern of our garments in order to achieve a very flattering fit. We want each to woman feel comfortable with herself, elegant but natural, and modern but practical.

The process is not easy, but it’s important not to expect everything to go smoothly from the beginning. We have learned that even though difficulties are always present, they’re best overcome with enthusiasm and effort, one obstacle at a time.

You have to risk a lot to achieve your goals, but there is no greater gratification than working on something of your own that you are also passionate about. If you have a clear idea in your head, you can reach these goals by staying grounded, focused and above all, motivated.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So many places! I would make sure they got plenty of beach time to sunbathe and relax, and even set up a boat day, because nothing beats the Miami skyline. I would take them to The Standard or Soho Beach House for some sunset drinks, and we would drive around the Art Deco Historic district.

When it comes to food, I would make sure to take them to Versailles for an authentic Cuban meal. Also All Day for breakfast, Greenstreet Cafe for brunch, and the Freehand for dinner are some of my favorite spots.

I would take them to walk around Coral Gables and the Grove, the Design District, Wynwood, and I would show them the Faena Hotel, the Frost Museum of Science, and Vizcaya.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to dedicate this shoutout to the wonderful communities that have supported us and continue to do so! Especially our clients here in Miami, but without forgetting those from California, New York, Colorado, etc. And of course a very special mention for the amazing team of artisans who help us develop our garments that are all made from start to finish in Miami.
