Meet Akio “The Fatha” Ross | Soca artist and Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Akio “The Fatha” Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Akio “The Fatha”, what are you inspired by?
Im inspired by the Love of Culture. Our culture is one of the most unique and beautiful cultures in the world. So there are many aspects of it in which one can gather inspiration from.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it comes to being a musical artist, you first have to be a student and lover of music. I think what sets me apart is that I understand this concept. You can never stop learning. Another tribute is many call me a historian on Soca, and Caribbean culture. I believe this allows me to create songs that give people a special feeling. To do this is not easy, because if it was then everyone would do it! Some challenges include getting your music to the target demographic and even when that is done, getting DJ’s to play your music can become a task. Music takes a lot of time and dedication just like any other profession. Some people try their whole lives and never get the acknowledgement they deserve. I am blessed to have released my first professional song in 2017 and to have made the progress that I have already.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Word! So Joys Roti shop is a must. If you like Trinidadian food then you must visit Joy’s even if it is just to lime (Hang out). Definitely have to visit the beach, not Miami beach, but Fort Lauderdale beach. It is a little bit more relaxing and less hype. Sundays definitely check out Rise and Toast, which is held at this spot called the Urban. It’s a day Brunch that turns into a party playing Soca, dancehall, ect. Brick on Saturdays in Wynwood is pretty cool too. Theres so many things to do in South Florida from nature activities to nightlife, that no matter what there are options.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank God first and foremost. Then shoutout to my family, friends and supporters for pushing me to do better in my musical career. Big up the whole Black sails team! We Outside!
