We had the good fortune of connecting with Kika Carvalho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kika, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Portugal and moved to the U.S. when I was eight years old. I go back home to Portugal a few times a year to visit my family and explore my beautiful country. Ever since I was little, my family always traveled to different places around the world. I have been lucky enough to have been to over 30 countries and visited 24 states in the U.S. Traveling has always been really encouraged in Europe, especially within the continent. There are affordable flights, trains, and buses that allow Europeans to easily travel from country and country, and discover what each destination has to offer. I grew up in the U.S. but still live like an European at heart. Being a travel influencer and blogger is a dream come true as I have the privilege to travel the world and share amazing places with my audience.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an Instagram influencer and blogger. Throughout my platforms I share travel inspiration, cooking recipes, makeup products, sales, give TV and movie recommendations, and much more. The part that excites me the most is when someone emails me or messages me saying they took my advice / recommendation and were very happy about it. I love it!
I definitely wouldn’t say that it is easy. There is so much that goes behind every single IG story, IG post and blog post. Behind every photo there are usually 100-200 other photos that were taken and that was the one that was chosen. It takes hours of research in order to write travel guides or shopping guides. Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed I just remind myself of why I’m doing this in the first place and it’s to make other people’s lives easier.
I want the world to know that I am more than happy to help in any way that I can!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is always a good time no matter where you go. In terms of dining, I would take my best friend to Il Gabbiano in Brickell (a bit expensive but amazing pasta), Enriqueta’s in Wynwood for incredible Cuban food, Sushi Siam in Key Biscayne for sushi, Kiki on the River for the best views and great Greek food, Spris on Lincoln Road for pizza, Yard House for unbelievable s’mores, and Big Pink for brunch.
Walking around Wynwood to see all of the art murals is a must. Shopping on Lincoln Road, walking down Calle Ocho, visiting Perez Art Museum, and going to South Beach are also musts.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As cheesy as it sounds, I would say my family. Ever since I was little they would always encourage me to follow my dreams and pursue what made me happy. I have always had a big fear of rejection which would hold me back in several occasions but they have helped me overcome that as well.
