We had the good fortune of connecting with AZSH and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi AZSH, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is that I can be authentic and true to myself… including taking care of myself mentally, physically and spiritually. The true success is in living well. If I also have success from my work that will be an added bonus (one that I welcome)!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a songwriter and Pop/Soul singer who loves Dance music! Now I’m Pop/Dance I guess?! I have been recording my original songs since I got my first opportunity in college and been pursuing a career as a recording artist ever since! I’m passionate about life and my experiences, struggles and victories will all be in interwoven into my songs. It has not been an easy journey. I have often been led astray by people and circumstances that seem to promise security, yet at the end of the day I have learned I can only be secure in myself. There is no reason to ever put my own dreams, aspirations, responsibilities or convictions on the back burner while I make sacrifices for others who don’t value the same things I do and don’t have the ability to deliver on the promises they made. Some of my greatest lessons have been to be willing to learn and persist no matter what challenges may come, to value authentic and selfless people who have your best interest at heart, to be brave, to prioritize personal health and well-being (mentally, physically and emotionally), and be ready for change at any moment. Read books, seek knowledge, and keep an open mind! I want the world to know that I’m here, learning and growing just like everyone else, looking to add value to the lives of those who come across my music or myself. I hope to spread love and joy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Times are a little strange here because of Covid… music hasn’t fully come back but I definitely like to enjoy the arts and great food and vibes! Some of my favorites besides beaches and boats are Cut 38 American Steakhouse, Lagniappe, Faena Living Room, Pura Vida (for lunch)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I have to shout out my parents! They both made tremendous sacrifices that enabled me to be who I am. From the schools, camps, and programs they sent me to, to the way they continued pursuing their passion as musicians while working full-time to support our family, I feel my upbringing was rich in love and invaluable experiences.
I’m thankful to all the people who comprise the Church, and all they places I encountered them throughout the years, especially including Southeast Christian Church (Louisville, KY), Graceland Christian School (New Albany, IN), Pleasant Valley Youth Camp (New Albany, IN), Northside Christian Church (New Albany, IN), Kingdom Fellowship Christian Church (Louisville, KY), Calvary Chapel Christian Church (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), and Vous Church (Miami, FL). I wouldn’t be who I am today without the men and women who went before me and beside me to help me live a life worth living.
Shoutout to my close friends from along the way… no matter how long we have grown apart I will always appreciate you for accepting me as I was and shaping who I would be: Krystal Lawler, Nikki Martin, Haley Matheney, Quisha Rice, Jessyca Jackson, Susan Johnston, Andrea Meriwether Alicia Ford, Valentina Polato, Kayce Armstrong, Stephania Greco.
Shoutout to the people I have met along the way of my musical journey who also supported, collaborated, and encouraged in one or more ways: Darius “DSounds” Towns, Antony Sutton, Jeff Price @ Sessionworks Studios, Deadbird Studios, Eric Edwards, Dustin Que, Robin Nixon, Carmen Rizzo, Judd Gleckman, Lorne Padman, Brian Fink, Don Diablo, Luis Salazar, Noa Lindberg, and countless other artists and musicians still running alongside!
