We had the good fortune of connecting with Indie DiMartino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Indie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve kind of always been really into art. it’s one of those things where, even if in the future it wasn’t directly involved with my career, I’d still be making things. It’s not something you can really explain. I just feel like it’s just a big part of who I am.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think recently I’ve started to realize doing what you really like and not taking yourself so seriously is key for your art to flourish. I mean, I’m still progressing as an artist and am nowhere near the caliber of what I’d like to be doing, but if being your authentic self isn’t where it’s at, then I don’t know what is. With my work, I really want to really revel in the boundaries of the form. I mean, I love working with different textures, visual styles and sounds in my projects and really interweaving them so they feel like one living, breathing piece, not just a bunch of parts edited together. I feel like every “thing” should be made to work with each other with the other “thing” in mind.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The beach! Otherwise, I keep to my room often.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I don’t think artists can really get anywhere without being pushed by the creations of the people around them. All the cool creators i’ve surrounded myself with and befriended over the years have definitely pushed me to be better, even if they didn’t ever realize it.
