Meet Coach Jerry Seymour | Running Back Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Coach Jerry Seymour and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Coach Jerry, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process about starting my own business was that I felt like my pay wasn’t nearly as good as my worth. I’m talking about every single job that I had. I was not in my element. Football is my element, I knew if I could get back to it some way then I would be able to eventually get paid was I was worth. So starting my own business was birthed from me feeling empty and wanting to fill a void in my life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career started on June 6, 2015 at 7:04am. I woke up out of my sleep with palpitations dreading going to work that day, and at that very moment I knew it was time to breakaway and do my own thing. I started the running back academy training 8-9 year old kids and it eventually turned in to high school, college, and NFL running backs.
I think what sets the running back academy apart from other running back trainers is the creativity of the drills that are so realistic, and intricate that athletes see the value in that. We also have a great mixture of old school training with new school training. Working for sports performance companies it allowed me to evaluate running backs differently biomechanically. So with me they get the best of both worlds. We also have an online database that people can train with the Running Back Academy virtually making us available to anybody in the world.
I think outside of training NFL running backs I believe the online database is what we are most proud of. Being able to create something virtually allows my to duplicate myself and people can have access to me anytime they want from anywhere in the world.
I got to where I am at professionally through building relationships. If you do good work and if you are good to people it will come back to you 10x’s more. I’m a big believer in that.
It was not easy. Starting a company with little to no capitol is extremely hard and every decision that you make is crucial. Granted you will make mistakes but you can’t make a mistake that will cost you “Big Time”. I also had to do alot of pro bono services in order to get the name out there and create that buzz. I overcame the challenges by staying consistent and having no fear when it came to pushing my work out there into the world. Most people can’t get past putting themselves out there. I didn’t care. I knew my crowd is out there somewhere.
I’ve learned that you have to stay positive and BELIEVE. You have to believe that your gift/product is worthy in whatever market that you are in. Even if there is other products like yours do it your way and people (your crowd) will gravitate towards it.
I want the world to know that the Running Back Academy is a “One Stop Shop” for all things that pertain to the Running Back Position. Whatever is is that you need from training, education, referrals, recruiting, finding an agent, consierge services. We can do it all and help assist with anything.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and formost my goes out to the most high! I am a big believer in what he is doing in my life and is a big part of the creativity that is being displayed in my business. Also my wife who listened to my never ending stories about how I wanted to make the Running Back Academy that most sought after Running Back Training Program. Also just believing and encouraging me when I feel like I’m about to quit. Anytime I speak doubt she shuts me down, and as mad as I may get its necessary. My parents who believed in my and was the first ones to invest in the business (had to pay back). Their support until this day means the world to me. Last but not least my brothers for their support and encouragement. Not a lot of people have a strong core of friends, but I do and I will never take that for granted.
