We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Goldblatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, how does tech affect you and your business? How does it help? How can it hold you or others in your industry back?
Technology is the backbone behind KickstartReading.com. We saw how much our kids were on screens, and wished there were more online education resources out there.
A lot of what we found for kids ages 3-6 was very flashy and overstimulating. We wanted to create screen time that parents could feel good about. I made 2-minute virtual lessons where kids could learn how to read from anywhere.
Now, all of the sudden, all students are learning virtually, so our program has become even more popular and valuable to parents (especially parents who are trying to juggle working and homeschooling at the same time.)
There isn’t a lack of technology holding us back, but with more funding and technology expertise, we will be able to create more hands-on learning experiences for kids.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
KickstartReading.com is an online program where we help kids learn to read.
We have 100 short videos that help teach kids to read in a way that’s easy and fun! There are free worksheets to go along with the videos to help parents with homeschooling and reinforce what they learn in the videos.
Kids learn how to read with me at a slow pace in short videos that keep kids attention. The videos are under two minutes long so they leave kids wanting to learn more. Kickstart Reading videos are like having your kid sit one-on-one with a personal reading tutor.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
With kids my favorite spots are going to the beach and parks. In Boca Raton, we love going to Sugar Sand Park. They have a great indoor and outdoor area for kids along with a Carousel ride. For nightlife, we go to Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. There are so many great restaurants to choose from.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My brother Rob deserves a shout out for the creation and success of Kickstart Reading. I started making these videos for his 5-year-old son to teach him how to read across the country, and Rob was the one who decided we should turn this into a business. He is the man behind the scenes making it all possible. I create the videos and lesson plans, and he runs the company from the back end. Without him, none of this would be possible.
