We had the good fortune of connecting with Martryce Roach and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martryce, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Absolutely!  Art has a way of opening minds. It creates a beautiful space where people want to learn more about different challenges impacting communities.  Visually, it allures people to want to understand what’s going on. So, I am grateful that some of my conversation pieces give me a platform to help spread awareness about social issues. Other of my pieces are so fun and uplifting that they are great escapes from the chaos of the world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I love pastels, and I use a drawing technique to tell stories.  Life is filled with movement, and how we swerve through change makes for a powerful story and a magical visual.

Right now, a few of my art stories are on exhibit at Akwaaba Gallery in Newark, NJ.  In June, my art will be showing at the Art 150 Gallery in Jersey City, NJ for the ProArts Curators Choice 2021 Exhibition.

Hard work and consistency has been crucial to my success. When you run a small business solo, you don’t just create the art. You have to be IT, marketing, shipping and handling, take meetings, research, keep the books, handle contract negotiations, travel, do installation, framing, manage inventory and supplies, do interviews. It’s a lot! It is not easy, but it is worth it. I thank God everyday that I can do it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize my art mentor, Kortez (Esotericurbanism), for believing in me as an entrepreneur and for encouraging my individuality as an artist. With nothing to gain, he has gone above and beyond throughout my career to keep me informed and growing. He has bridged so many valuable connections for me. And, his creativity is a huge source of inspiration. I’m so grateful for this brother!
