We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexia Aguilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Every successful person experiences failures. Without failures there are no lessons in which you can grow and learn from. Leaving the luxury industry which I had been in for so long was such a risk, it was all I knew. I had no idea if I would get clients to consult for. So many people told me to never leave a job without having another job in place but I didn’t listen to that fear. I took a risk, stuck to what I wanted to do and most importantly, I believed in myself. This decision was far from easy and still there are days I am frustrated, other days I fail, but I continue to learn. I will never let fears and failure stop me from reaching my dreams and goals.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I graduated from Florida International University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations, Advertising and Applied Communications. During this time I began interning in the industry of luxury goods. My first internship was with LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) and then went on to complete two more internships with Cartier and Chopard. Not only do I love to be the creative mind behind sales but I also very much enjoy meeting clients, event planning, marketing strategy, and helping brands grow. After completing my internship at Chopard, I then moved my way up from a Public Relations and Marketing Assistant, to Coordinator, to Jr. Marketing Manager of the Americas. This position extremely rewarding in which I was able to gain so much knowledge and experience.

After some time in this position, I knew I wanted to do more; I wanted to help small businesses grow. I knew leaving everything I had worked so hard for up until this point was going to be a very difficult decision, but I took a chance. January 2020 I decided to leave my job and begin consulting. At the time, I also completed a Professional Certification in Digital Marketing with the University of Miami.

Today, I am the proud owner of Jade Marketing and Events and have over 6 years experience in creating brand awareness through strategic marketing, curated events, and digital content for brands in a variety of industries. My versatility and knowledge gives me the ability to design out-of-the-box and effective marketing strategies for a number of different client needs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let me start off by saying, a week in Miami isn’t enough! There are so many things to do, places to see, delicious foods to eat, the list goes on and on. I would schedule workout classes at some of my favorites; FlyWheel, Barry’s, Solid Core and even a sunset run on the Key Biscayne Bridge. When it comes to activities I would take her to kayak and bike ride in Key Biscayne, go see some art in Wynwood, grab a mojito on Calle Ocho, get a massage at a hotel in Miami Beach and take the day to tan and drive down to the keys for a day. Last but most definitely not least, places to eat! A few of my faves; Komodo, RedFish, Mila, Rosetta, Mandolin, Vista, Carbone, Doma, Bellini, shall I continue?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many amazing people and experiences that have contributed to my journey that I would like to say thank you to but one in specific: my sister, Lany. Like most of us entering college, I was not sure what career I wanted to pursue. I had always looked up to her and so I then decided to study Public Relations and Marketing as she did. She has been the role model I could look up to and turn to, has pushed me to get out of my comfort zone, has helped me understand the importance of networking and creating relationships, and mostly importantly has continued to remind me that believing in yourself is the most important factor to success.
