We had the good fortune of connecting with Mev The Renegade and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mev, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was already an established music producer with when I first created Traks 5th Avenue, and one thing that I felt that the game was missing from the production side were the concept of strong “production houses” & production teams like BeatClub, The Neptunes, The Clutch, and many more. I decided that I would follow those principles to shape my own record company-to form a team that undeniably co-creates music at the highest level. Forming Traks was not only huge for me because of the intended impact, but also due to the fact that it was my first venture outside of producing under The Renegades. It was important to myself that I set up something from the ground up and make the imprint successful. Being able to show the proof of the concept in our placements and partnerships has truly been a testament to our hard work and determination.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets myself apart from others is that I’m really 100% all about collaborating, helping others attain their goals, and I never involve myself in something that I don’t believe in. That goes for my producers signed to my label, the producers I mentor through my group chats, or the artists that I choose to work with, to the artists that I send beats to for placements. If it’s not about elevating from a genuine place, we cannot be apart of it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting I’d have to make sure they went to the staple places on South Beach, but also show them the real Miami and show some support for all of the local eateries that are amazing. I love Wynwood & Midtown and how all the lounges have amazing drinks. You can’t leave Miami in my opinion without taking a boat ride at night to take in the city skyline – there’s nothing like it in the world! My hang outs in Miami are the studio, so I’d have to take them by my favorites, which include Lucrative Youth, A2F, to name a few.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely want to give a shout out to my older sister, Maritza. From giving me a place to call home in Miami, to giving me basic business advice at the beginning of my career, she’s always been a driving force behind my continued success. Maritza never takes no for an answer, and never backs down from a challenge.
