We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenya Caywood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenya, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When I take the time to think what factors contributed to the success of my business the first thing that comes to mind is Manifestation. Envisioning myself succeeding gave me the drive and courage to go for my dreams. During the global pandemic I was in a similar situation as most, in the house. I felt lost. But through darkness came light. I knew that a 9-5 was not something that I wanted to do forever and now I had the time to make the change. I started doubting myself, questioning if anyone would support me. Soon after I read an article on the power of manifestation, so that is what I did. Instead of worrying, I started imaging my successes, my victories, and my accomplishments. And with every thought my vision became clearer and Soundoff Cosmetics was born.

What should our readers know about your business?
So What is Soundoff Cosmetics….​ Soundoff Cosmetics, is a cosmetic line that was founded with two goals in mind: providing high-quality, affordable beauty products while also staying true to my passion for music. Soundoff Cosmetics does just that! My love for the two has driven me to create this brand, otherwise known as “THE LABEL.” Some of the things that you will find throughout The Label, will be the names of some of favorite artist, and maybe even some that you have yet to discover, along with various other musical innuendos. Even the products designs, and packaging will leave you wanting to Jam Out while you Glam Out! From the Cassette Lashes, Lyrical Lip Glosses, Speakerbox Liquid Lipsticks and my mantra “ON BEAT”, a play on words for makeup and music. Soundoff Cosmetics is a Black owned, small business that does not intend to be small for long! Designed to emerce customers into an experience that is unforgettable.

Creating Soundoff Cosmetics was no easy suite, through countless hours, and more all nighters than could be imaged, it was worth every second. I love my brand, my brand is me. Everything that I put out is a piece of me. Being so connected to my business has helped me overcome obstacles that I may be faced with. One thing that I have learned along the way is to write everything down. Every thought, every idea, it plays a part in the creative process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestie was coming in town and I wanted to show her a bad a** time I would start the day off with a BEAT! We would glam up and and paint the town red! First by hitting up a bumping hip hop brunch, following up with a little insta photoshoot with the city scenery in background. We would end the day at my favorite Bar & Grill, closing the night with a girl pow wow !

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe all my success to my son, my supporters, and God. Without my son I am not sure where I would be. He helped me blossom into the woman I am today. While my supporters validate all of my hard work and allow me to be creative and grow into the brand that I have always dreamed to be. And nothing I have would be possible without God. With God on my side all things are possible and the sky is the limit.
