We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my business was inevitable in my mind. I’ve worked for others for 7 years in the fitness and wellness industry, and have worked hard to create a network and refine my skillset. I knew it was something I wanted to do, but dragged my feet for a long time before pulling the trigger. I knew that I could add value to people, that I could help others get themselves to a point in their physical and emotional fitness that they’re really proud of. So I invested (a large chunk of money!) into a business mentorship that helped me get started. In my mind I needed a push, and that was what got me moving. In my mind, my goal is to help people get unstuck and take imperfect, uncomfortable action. My first step was practicing what I intended to teach.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is CG Coaching. It is an online fitness, nutrition, and mindset coaching system that I’ve developed to help people get “unstuck” and build momentum toward their dream life. I’m so proud of the success stories from my clients, more mental and emotional than physical. In 10 months I’ve helped over 50 individuals create healthy habits, build structured routines, and create strong, positive mindsets. It was far from easy to do this. I had lots of uncomfortable conversations, put myself out there, and got a good amount of “no”s. It took creating content that is authentic to market myself, and sharing my expertise in more than just fitness, in order to create trust with clients and learn what really makes them tick.

In my business I’ve learned how good it feels to help someone. How amazing it feels to wake up and know that I’m able to influence someone in a positive way and create real, lasting change. It’s a special feeling.

To those curious about my brand, I’d invite them to reach out to me and have a conversation. My business is built from my experience with hardship, my lessons in fitness I’ve learned, and is my authentic self. I’m so happy to meet new people and get better at being a coach.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Fort Lauderdale right now and my favorite spot is the beach. For things to do, I have my go-tos.

Lester’s Diner for a classic breakfast. A stroll down the riverwalk then some lunch at Big City Tavern. Hugh Taylor Birch park for some nature, then across the street to the beach. But I wouldn’t sit and relax. I love exercising on the beach. Last year, once a week for 52 weeks, I did a mile of lunges to raise funds for men’s mental health. I can’t say that was “fun” but I do LOVE movement on the beach. After beach, some golf at Palm Aire or at Grande Oakes (if I can convince my buddy Steve to bring me).

If you’re feeling some action, Miami is something. It’s not necessarily my thing anymore, after spending 8 years living in New York City, but the arts district in Wynwood is really fun!

I just love all that you can do in my area. Except the heat, flooding, hurricanes, crazy lizards, and unreal humidity. But I’m from New York, so we can deal with anything :-).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my wife, Leah. She has stood next to me and been my rock through more than I could have ever asked or expected from her. She’s my best friend and I am eternally grateful to have her in my life. Being an entrepreneur comes with a lot of pressure, uncertainty, and tough times. Leah is everything I’ve needed in my life and more, and I can’t wait to continue living life with her.
