Meet Chakeria Jenkins | Nail Technician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chakeria Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chakeria, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I feel like being consistent was the key to my success. In an industry like the one I am in, it can be hard but staying consistent is important to the progress of my business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel like what sets me apart from others is my determination. I know that there are a lot of amazing nail techs and it motivates me to just keep going so that I can be on their level or better one day. Starting a nail business is not easy at all especially because of all the ups and downs that it comes with. Building clientele, retaining clientele, learning new techniques to stay in the now when it comes to designs and nail art, it can be a lot so I try not to overwhelm myself. I breathe and think of ways to make the situation easier for myself.

Some lessons that I’ve learned along the way is that practice makes perfect. I know it sounds cliche but it is the honest truth. My work did not look how it looks now 2 years ago when I first started and that is because I practiced, made mistakes and learned from them.

As far as me wanting the world to know about my brand, I would say I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into perfecting my craft and it is something that I genuinely have a passion for. Every set of nails that I produce is done with love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I currently live in Orlando so there’s a ton of things to do here. Of course the amusement parks are a favorite of mine. The nightlife here can get pretty interesting as well, it really just all depends on what type of person you are. Most of the restaurants I’ve been to here have not disappointed so I would definitely make sure to stop by some of those. My favorite at the moment is Don Julio Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Bar.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends, family and clients deserve all the recognition because they all motivate me and push me in ways I’ve never been pushed before.
