We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Lapadula-Altman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
One of my New Years Resolution was to dive into my creative side and do something that I enjoyed on my spare time and was also fun. My grandmother taught me how to sew when I was a little girl and I wanted to teach myself again how to sew and embroider since it had been so long. @SomethingThready was an idea that started during the 2020 pandemic and blossomed to what it is today. The most important thing I’ve learned was to simply go for it! Start the business, stop thinking about it, and don’t wait for the perfect time, just do it! It will work out one way or another!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think it’s so important to chase your dreams, at whatever age and whatever time in your life. I worked hard and was lucky enough to have my dream job right out of college as a tv reporter and producer. As I grew older, I realized I wanted to dive into corporate communications. I currently work full-time in that field for a wonderful company. I still have so many aspirations and goals I’d like to accomplish, but right now I am enjoying my side hobby embroidering clothes, bags, hats and so much more. @SomethingThready was created with a lot of love, detail and passion. I am simply grateful for all my followers and customers who have fueled this idea far beyond my imagination.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I LOVE a good itinerary! Miami is such a fun place to be and there is so much to do!
Here’s my weekend line-up:
Brunch at Mamey Miami inside the Thesis Hotel in Coral Gables. I love Tigertail + Mary for lunch or dinner.
Day drinking at Barracuda in Coconut Grove with a pit stop at Salt and Straw for ice cream! A couple other fun spots to have drinks or eat is Mr. C’s Hotel, Public Square, the Wharf, the Bar in Coral Gables, Earls at Dadeland Mall, and 1-800 Lucky in Wynwood.
Dinner: Cracked by Chef Adrienne, Perry’s Steakhouse in Merrick Park, Coyo Taco in Coral Gables, and Flanigans are all amazing or if you are feeling a little road trip, head down to the Big Chill in Key Largo for live music, great views and delicious food.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wonderful friend, Tati (@allfunandletters) inspired me to start this small business. She is incredibly talented and also started her business during the pandemic. She has guided me and answered countless questions I’ve had. I also have the support of my amazing husband, friends and family who have shared my page on social media and promoted @somethingthready countless times! I can’t thank them enough and all my customers for believing in me. I think it’s so important to be surrounded by women who have so many goals and aspirations and find passion in simple things while also having a full-time job/career. When women help women, beautiful things happen!
