We had the good fortune of connecting with Janeris Marte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janeris, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
One of my goals is for my daughters to see well beyond being an employee. I see so much potential in them. So it makes me so proud when they mention my business. It’s important for me to visibly see the freedom, benefits, and possibilities that come with entrepreneurship. Also allowing them to participate when they can. They’re only 5 and 7 but letting them take part in my marketing and in my product reveals in clients orders has made them excited snout business. I hope to raise CEOs of major companies.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a photographer in the digital age it’s tempting to make my life easy and send a gallery of digitals to a client and call it a day. But my business has evolved several times. I started photography in 1997 when digital was just starting to peek out. It was a time when in order to enjoy your portraits, a photographer had to print out tangible photos for you to enjoy.

Then I got excited with the digital wave and the ease of sharing and transitioned to only digital. I realized that I did my clients a disservice. While clients thought they just needed photos that were easy to share on social media, I knew the benefit firsthand of how much they needed tangible art to remember particular moments in their family’s life. That’s when I transitioned into a full service photography business.

I meet with my clients to understand their interests, what photos have impacted them the most growing up, and what they would like their children to see and remember when they grow up. This helps me create the perfect art for their home. They receive what they want which are the digitals. But they also receive what will make the greatest impact in their family’s memories when hard drives crash and storage devices change.

I recently found a mini cd where I used to save my photos. I have no idea how to get to them now. But because I’ve always had printed photos, I’m not even concerned on what was on there.

This is what I want for my families. Yes, digitals are a great way to have your memories. But if you rely only on them, you will lose so much of your family’s history through all the fast-paced changes in technology. What has made the greatest impact on how you remember mom or grandma have been those tangible portraits. It’s what will make the greatest impact in your children’s memories of your family too.

Since transitioning, I have delivered and installed the most amazing artwork in homes of many families. It’s a joy for me to see and so beautiful what I am able to create to preserve their family legacies.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Miami, there is always so much to do. Before the pandemic I took full advantage of lots of kids-friendly places. But if a friend came here, I’d be at the beach with them. We have miles and miles of options when it comes to the ocean and it’s one of my favorite hangouts. The smell of the beach is something that sticks to you and you will always remember.

It’s also a neutral background for incredible portraits. Many clients ask me for photos on the beach and the results are always stunning.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my husband who has given me freedom to follow my passions and gets excited when I envision something new.
