We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Soltau and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Being a digital marketing instructor with a passion for teaching and empowering students makes me happy. I find teaching rewarding because it gives me a sense of fulfillment. There is also the gratification of knowing that I helped someone learn something, which is a very positive feeling.

Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

About my business
In a nutshell, I teach digital marketers, students,  entrepreneurs, and organizations how to use personalized, interactive, and scroll-stopping digital marketing strategies to increase engagement.

I host 2-hour online workshops, where each workshop covers a specific topic, and I also offer private or group tutoring.

Additionally, organizations hire me to present their marketing workshops.

What sets me apart
My teaching style is casual and interactive, delivering content in an easy-to-understand format using relatable industry-specific examples to drive home important Digital Marketing lessons.

How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and great business ideas but lacked the enthusiasm to follow through with them.

I’ve done everything from selling roses on Valentine’s day, selling calling cards, operating gumball machines, and even making and selling souvenir dog t-shirts.

I never loved any of those business ventures enough to continue pursuing them.
We all want to have a life with meaning and purpose, but how do we find it when we don’t know what we want to do? The fact is that many people don’t know what they want to do with their lives, or worse yet, they’re stuck in a job that does not fulfill them.

I convinced myself that was not going to be me. It’s been many years of trial and error trying to find my happy place. I went on to pursue a career in marketing, where I worked in marketing departments. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t “love” it.
But that still was not enough; I didn’t feel 100 % satisfied.

My close friends would always ask me for digital marketing advice for their business or one of their business ideas. I loved brainstorming ideas with them and teaching them about the different marketing strategies. I happily did this for free; after all, they were my friends.

More and more, I started to wonder, “what am I supposed to be doing with my life? “I loved digital marketing, and  I enjoyed brainstorming ideas with friends but was not making a living from it.

Then came my long-awaited light bulb moment, like a bat out of hell.

I thought about the two things that I enjoyed. I loved digital marketing and helping my friends with their strategies. That’s when I put my thoughts together and concluded that I could teach digital marketing.

I needed to scratch this itch. So I contacted Youmake Miami, the Miami-Dade Public Library System‘s maker spaces, and I asked if they were interested in hosting digital marketing workshops. They said yes. This happened two years ago and was the start of my teaching journey. Since then, I have taught over 30 digital marketing workshops. I am very grateful to the staff at YouMake Miami for allowing me to present my workshops, which motivated me to hone my digital marketing skill-set.

At my workshops, I met college students, entrepreneurs, people who wanted to start a side gig, people who worked full time but wanted to transition to a new career. They all wanted to learn about digital marketing.
I’ll never forget a seventeen-year-old student who attended a few of my workshops., He was still in high school, and he had already launched his website to sell generic AirPods.

Students can be the most rewarding part of teaching for the teacher. They are an eager audience and often have more questions than anyone else in the room.

What am I most proud of?
In March of 2021, I accepted a teaching assistant position on the instructional team for Georgia Tech’s first digital marketing boot camp.
This was the spark that lit my candle.

The experience made it clear, and I knew for sure and was confident that my work in this lifetime is to teach and empower students, small business owners, and entrepreneurs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our first stop would be a day trip in Key West, where I would take my bestie on a sunset Waverunner tour.

I would also take them to Dolphin Mall and Brickell City Center to get some shopping done. My besties are foodies, so I would definitely want to take them to a restaurant in Wynwood and to my favorite, the French Bakery located in Pinecrest.
