We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherlette Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sherlette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I was in high school I used to sell candy to my classmates as a way of making extra cash. When I had my first sale it was a great feeling to know I made money on my own! Thats when I knew I wanted to start my own business. A business that my customers and myself would benefit from. I started Rainforest Beauty Care while I was in massage school. I paired skin care and massages together because they go hand it hand. I would be able to provide relaxation and help reduce common muscle pain while helping those improve the look and feel of their skin naturally through organic skin care products. Two businesses in one that will always be in demand. It was the best business choice I could ever make.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is the art of making cold process soap. Cold process soap can be designed to display beautiful artwork from different shapes, swirls and colors. When making soap it allows your creativity to flow and sometimes I feel like an artist! Seeing how my soap turned out after cutting it is amazing because each soap has its own unique look. What I feel like sets me apart form others is the way I design my soaps. I have a rule of thumb that I follow which is I do not sell ugly soap! When potential clients look at my soaps the first thing they tell me is “OMG this looks too pretty to use” I feel honored when they say that because my soap might be used as bathroom decor. One thing about my soap is if my design doesn’t catch you then the smell most definitely will!

When I first started making soap my soaps would not come out as how I designed it on my paper. Either the colors will blend together because I didn’t blend the colors in thoroughly or I over blended so my soap would accelerate trace on me and I didn’t move fast enough to try and make it work. Every day I learn something new with soap making. In order to improve and learn from your mistake you have to research, research, research. I like to join Facebook groups or follow other soap makers that show the ugly side of soap making for people like me because lets face it we do not know everything.

What I learned along the way is you have to be patient. Patient to wait until the soap is cure, patient to wait to take it out the mold, patient through the journey, patience in all you do! You can’t rush the process because if you do it just comes out looking ugly at the end.

I want everyone to know that Rainforest Beauty Care is not just a brand selling massage and skin care products. It’s a company that cares about the well being of each client! Our goal with massage is to help our clients achieve therapeutic wellness through touch. Where we focus on muscle tension, stress relief and relaxation. Our goal for our skin care is to help our clients achieve natural radiating skin through organic products that are always chemical free! We want you to look and feel yourself with confidence.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
