We had the good fortune of connecting with Sasheina Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sasheina, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The first step of the ideation of my business came out of the love for the tattooing industry. In September 2020, during a peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Jamaica, I decided to launch LivityInkJA . My love for Tattooing started years prior to my engagement into the skill, by admiring heavily tattooed bodies and watching shows such as Ink Master and Best Ink. The thing that blew my mind the most was the fact that persons were permanently adorning their bodies with creative artwork. Through the years art has been my whole life, creative at the core and this was just another artistic challenge that I was willing to take on. Not knowing the great passion that would grow for the art form. I decided that I was going to do some research on the tattooing industry and purchase all the necessary equipment for my new tattooing journey. I did a couple of months of practice and then I tried out my new skill on actual skin and it was a success. More persons started noticing the work and wanted more and more tattoos. This is how the second step of the ideation of the business came about. I decided to tattoo as a side hustle, along with my regular 9-5, but the demand for tattoos were increasing. I realized that there was a gap in the market that I could offer a service to fill, while fully enjoying the process. That alongside the passion that grew for this art form turned into what LivityInkJA is today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art simply put is permanently adorning humans with artwork on their bodies that they will love for a lifetime. What sets me apart from others is the fact that I’ve always been doing art and the passion that I have for my field. I am most proud of my growth in the field in a short period of time and I am also proud of the fact that I am very open to learning new techniques and skills and I have a drive that keeps me going and growing. I get excited about doing tattoos that are outside the box, tattoos that challenge me artistically. That really gets the passion and artistic drive going. I got to where I am today professionally by doing lots of research, practicing my craft every day, and also listening to the advice of other persons in my field. I also went to Art School and learned a lot of the fundamentals of art. This has tremendously helped me along my journey thus far. I incorporate all my knowledge to provide artwork that will make people happy. It was not an easy task , you really have to put out the effort and stay focused on your goals. Determination and passion are key in the process. Some days you may question whether or not you are good enough, as creatives we all have those days. The lesson to be learned from this is that we cannot always depend on someone to justify our work, we have to be fully confident in what we create, and only at that point will you get true satisfaction. Good art is really in the eyes of the beholder, not everyone will have the same views as you. Another lesson I’ve learned along my journey thus far is that no matter what obstacles may come your way, they can always be solved. Just believe in yourself and believe in your talents, and take things one step at a time. I would like the world to know that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Let go of all the negative thoughts and just implement positivity in your daily life. That’s how I try to live my life and that’s how I try to represent my brand in a positive light. Everyone’s story is different but as long as u have a passion, you can make that story great for yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the country for a week it would be one filled with great adventures. We would definitely find a beach somewhere off the North Coast and enjoy a beautiful sunny day filled with relaxation and some great food. We would possibly do a few water activities or small fun beach games. Another day of the vacation would be more adrenaline-filled, we would possibly go GoKarting at the track at Palisados or go dirt Biking.

And that would be all for wild adventures, I would take them on a small road trip, driving through a few parishes where they can experience the natural beauty of my country, experience its people, and its small hot spots for entertainment along the way. I would introduce them to a few friends and possibly go to a small get-together or Link Up as we Jamaicans call it and dance the night away,
While the trip would be winding down at this point id love to take them to the National Gallery so they can experience a little bit of what Jamaican artists have to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, my friends, all the supporters of my business and all the great tattoo artists that have given me advice so far on my journey. I’d also just like to shoutout everyone who has been a part of my creative journey so far. Shoutouts to you all!
