We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Weinstock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeremy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been doing Muay Thai Martial Arts for over 12 years and have been a full time teacher for over 5 years working primarily with students on the Spectrum. I wanted to be able to help other people including kids gain confidence, self discipline and be healthy. I saw how the Martial Arts improved my balance, hand eye coordination and dexterity. I figured it would be a great mechanism to help children and adults with special needs.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My first job working as a Martial Arts instructor was hard to come by. A lot of people didn’t want to give me a chance. Maybe they saw me more as competition than someone who can bring up the gym. A lot of people said no. It was discouraging. I realized though that it only takes one person to say yes. After a lot of no’s eventually a gym said yes and hired me. That’s very important in life. Not quitting with one person says No. In some cases all it takes is one person to say yes. You have to believe in yourself and believe you have something that someone is going to appreciate, and that one person can make you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miami is one of the top cities in the US. I would take him to one of the famous Cuban Restaurants like La Carreta. Maybe we would go to the beach or something during the day and at night go to Wynwood.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Khru Dave Gomez over at Beautiful Violence Miami was instrumental in helping me recognize my full potential.
