We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaimie DeRosa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaimie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I grew up around physicians, including my dad, who were in private practice, running their own businesses, so I had always thought that was what being a doctor meant. After I completed my facial plastic surgery fellowship training, I wanted to ‘give back’ and teach the next generation of surgeons, so I entered academic medicine. Over time, I realized that I was not only interested in teaching but also wanted to create a comprehensive facial plastic surgery center in order to provide top care for my patients. I also kept saying to myself, “when I do ‘such and such’, I’ll do it this way”…and knew that I had to start my own business. So, I created and opened the DeRosa Center for Facial Plastic Surgery.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founder and lead surgeon of the DeRosa Center for Facial Plastic Surgery in Boston’s Back Bay and Palm Beach. As a woman who specializes in female rhinoplasty (nose jobs) and aging face surgery, such as mini facelifts, eyelid lifts, laser resurfacing, etc, I am able to connect with my patients in a way that is truly special. I try to put myself in my patient’s shoes, so to speak, to really understand what they want in terms of surgical goals and believe it is absolutely essential to connect with my patients so that they feel comfortable talking with me and sharing all of their concerns, desires, and goals.

Starting my own business was not easy, and anyone who has done it (successfully) will likely agree that it is a 24/7 job. But that is what I LOVE! I am always thinking about how we can give our patients a better experience. Over the years, I have brought in colleagues whose offerings compliment my surgery and provide our patients top-notch service.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Boston, I would start at the Boston Public Garden, which is absolutely beautiful and abuts the start of Newbury Street, which is where my business is. If one is looking for a place to stay, I’d recommend The Newbury, which has recently be renovated and has a fabulous rooftop restaurant, too!

In Palm Beach, I would stay at the Colony Hotel or the White Elephant and bicycle along the Lake Trail with a view of West Palm Beach. Group pilates at Squeeze Pilates with Jill at the Poinciana Plaza is a must and then lunch at the Surf Side Cafe, One can choose a romantic dinner at Renatos or something more casual at Swifty’s Poolside at the Colony Hotel. Keep an eye open for the parrots who sleep in Palm Beach and fly over to West Palm during the day!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very fortunate in that I have family and friends who believe in me and my ability to succeed no matter what the challenge. I also am grateful to be an active member of the AAFPRS (American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) as well as the ABFPRS (American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery), as these institutions are dedicated to education and maintaining a high bar for excellence in our specialty. Leaders in both organizations have been very supportive of me and my success as a private practice (business owner) facial plastic surgeon.
