We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Poitier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started Brittany P. Racing LLC Drag Racing Performance Company, I did not embark on this journey just for myself; however, I created this company to provide opportunities in the community that will support the dreams and aspirations of individuals in the South Florida area who posses a passion for automotive science, aerodynamics, modern technology, and STEAM.

I dreamed of creating a company that would build a relationship with local colleges, technical institutes, middle and high schools, community centers, and youth programs; teaching all who desire to learn the true science behind Drag Racing Automotive’s, and assist in supporting individuals who desire to enter into a Motorsports profession or wish to work behind the scenes on the car as a member of a pit crew.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I truly have a heart for people and Drag Racing. I have dedicated my entire life giving back to the Community and ensuring that every person I encounter, has his/ her/their Social, Emotional, and Environmental needs met. Growing up as a daughter of a Race Car Driver, I was exposed to the thrill and excitement of the sport at a very young age. As my father got older and leaned closer towards retirement after over 50 years of Drag Racing, I decided to step up to the plate and follow in my father’s footsteps by taking over the family Drag Racing Business.

I formally worked for the Broward County School District as a Community Liaison, Equity Liaison, Youth Mental Health First Aider, Trauma Support Stakeholder, a Student Support SAFE Personnel, a Title I Read and Rise Literacy Facilitator, the Director of SHINE Mentorship Program, the Director of Pod Pals Student and Teacher Mentorship Program, The Road to Success Tutoring Program Coordinator, a Community Partnership Coordinator, and the Student Services Family and Community Food and Clothing Pantry Director.

I consider myself as a lifelong learner, and in 2013 I received my B.A. in Psychology from the University of Phoenix, in 2021 I received my M.A. in Human Services Counseling Specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University, and I am currently working towards my Ph.D. in Public Administration and Board Certification in Marriage and Family Counseling.

I also possess a passion for educating the public surrounding Autism and ADHD Awareness, therefore I became a member of the National Autism Society in 2012, and proudly dedicate my time Advocating for individuals with Special Needs. In addition to advocacy, I am an Ordained Minister, an awe-inspiring conversationalist, a nationally recognized Keynote Public Speaker on topics such as Childhood Depression and Literacy Awareness, a member of the National Association of Christian Ministers, a member of the Florida Education Association, a member of The American Association of Christian Counselors, and a Health and Wellness Influencer.

Aside from being a part of an elite few of African American Women Race Car Drivers who Drag Race in both the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), I am the Founder and President of a Non-Profit organization called Do It From The Heart Inc., the 2019-2020 Broward County Public Schools Non-Instructional Employee of the Year Award Recipient, the 2019-2020 Broward College Martin Luther King Jr. Award Recipient, and a Finalist for the 2020-2021 State of Florida Department of Education Non-Instructional Employee of The Year Award.

I created Brittany P. Racing LLC to not only shine a light on my passion and talent when it comes to Drag Racing; however to provide opportunities for youth and adults in the community to receive hands on experience and engagement in the field of automotive, aerodynamics, and STEAM in conjunction with the sport of Drag Racing, to partner with local communities in combatting the fight against Literacy Deprivation in low-income neighborhoods across the country, and provide a company for other racers just like myself who need support, assistance, guidance, and motivation in his/her/their quest in establishing a mark in the elite professional sport of Drag Racing. I am a true believer that, “All Things are Possible if You Believe in Yourself, and Never Lose Sight of Your Goals.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a plant based vegan and love to take part in local vegan festivals. Some of my favorite places to eat which has both vegan and non-vegan options includes the Tropical Oasis Food Truck which can be found traveling through Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County, JoRoBee’s Restaurant located in the beautiful city of Deerfield Beach Florida, I love the Island Boy’s Conch Shack all natural juices, and my favorite grab and go place to eat at is WholeFoods Market lol. Yes I must admit I truly love WholeFoods.

After grabbing a bite to eat at those amazing places, I love to take a stroll in Mizner Park, taking a long walk down the Deerfield Beach Pier, or dressing up and walk down Las Olas Blvd. For something more kid friendly, my children and I love going to Sky Zone Trampoline Park, and I Fly.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my daughter Serenity, my son Sion, and my son Jayseon. My life would not be complete without you three. All three of you are my greatest accomplishments.

I would like to say thank you to my parents Dan and Ella Poitier who loves me unconditionally, supports me in everything I do, and encourages me throughout all things in life.

Thank you so much to my brother Samuel McHenry and my sister Yvette Bastian for being my support system and the best brother and sister a girl could ask for.

Also shoutout to my family at Emmanuel Christian Center, my friends at both Deerfield Park Elementary and Broadview Elementary School, my aunt Ms. Josephine Hudson, my cousin Dr. Sherrie Poitier, and the entire Poitier and Archie Family.

Lastly, I want to thank my Angels in Heaven Lillie Mae Archie, Rebecca Inoris Poitier, Prince Oral Poitier, Aaron Archie Sr., Dwight Poitier, Aaron Archie Jr., my amazing brother Eddie James Hudson Jr., and my best friend Billie Lee “Superman” Bright. Although each of you are in Heaven now, I would not be where I am today if it was not for your love, guidance, prayers and support. I love and miss each and every one of you.
