We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawna B and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawna, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Starting a business was the riskiest thing that I have ever done, financially. Taking these type of major risks can be life changing, for better or for worse. However, life is all about taking risks. I’ve always played on the riskier side of life and I do believe that I wouldn’t be where I am today if I was too scared to jump into risky situations. Of course, I always do my research and outweigh the pros and cons but you can just never predict how these things will work out. Some people may view failed risks as a fail but it never truly is. Sometimes, it’s these failures that can provide the greatest business lessons that an entrepreneur can learn. Being risky is all about growth and encouraging innovation within ourselves and/or our businesses.

What if I fall? Oh, but darling, what if you fly?

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m the founder of Smokke Show and I started everything from the bottom. I built my own website and have done all of the branding by myself. I know how the whole business runs because I have done every little thing by myself, so that I was able to start the business. I spent hours (and still do) researching and watching youtube videos on how to market and build a brand. It was not easy. I have a family and I’m also a registered nurse. Balancing everything out is probably the most difficult part because, we as business owners, become consumed and feel the need to work 18 hours in a day! I’ve had to learn how to delegate jobs to other people because as I grew, I could not manage everything on my own. Being able to let go of certain things and building a team has been the best decision yet. The world needs to know that Smokke Show is just getting started and expect to see us start popping up all over the place! We have just made our appearance in a few editions of Maxim Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar Magazine. Look out for us at the Naples Fashion Week – Fashion Show, on October 30th! – It just passed so can we change it to “October 30th, we were a part of the Naples Fashion Week and held a segment in their Dreams in Gold Fashion Show.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming down, she definitely wouldn’t be sleeping for a week! The downtown Miami area has the best hotels so we could book something down there! I would take her to Wynwood during the day to see the artwork and cute shops. Wynwood also has a lively night scene so we can go there to get some drinks and dance the night away. Of course we need an abundance of pictures, so the perfect spot for that is the Selfie Museum. Bayside Marketplace has really unique restaurants so we would go there for sure! I would take her to The Sugar Factory Restaurant and then maybe the ferris wheel that overlooks the city. South beach has the iconic strip that we can walk through and jump into the beautiful ocean. I would also take her up to my favorite restaurant in Pompano Beach, The Beach House. After that, I would take her over to the west coast to stay in Marco Island. We can rent a boat and live the lavish life for a few days over there! Ok, now I want my best friend to visit me!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Family is alway first! Thanks for putting up with me and my one track mind. My whole team! My assistant, content writer, models, marketers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, glam, seamstress, and everyone else that makes the dream come true!
