We had the good fortune of connecting with PRD and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PRD, what’s a piece of conventional advice you disagree with??
A lot of people tell you to be confident in what you do. But confidence doesn’t come naturally or easily for a lot of people, including myself. Waiting to be confident in myself is something that has held me back from going after the things I truly want. I’ve since learned that confidence comes from actually doing the things you aren’t confident about. Through taking action you disarm a lot of the fear you’ve built up in your head around it and you’re able to start believing in yourself. I feel that the best piece of advice is to start before you’re ready, because honestly, we’ll never be ready. Our need for continuous improvement means that once we accomplish one goal another goal takes its place. There will always be room for improvement, and if we keep waiting to get better before we take our skills out into the world we’ll be waiting forever. I’m still not very confident in my skills as an artist even though I’ve been practicing music my whole life. This is because I know I can be much better than I am right now, but I’ve started to accept that this will always be the case. I am learning that the person I am right now is more than enough, and that the person I want to be in the future will come to me.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Right now I’m basically maintaining two careers. I’m an engineer by day and a musician by night. For my day job I work as a jet engine designer for Pratt & Whitney. I’m in a group called Externals and we take ownership of all the components surrounding the core of the engine, mainly fluid delivery systems. I enjoy being an engineer as it helps me exercise my logical brain and gives me an understanding of the way our world works. However music is where my heart truly lies and I know for a fact that it’s the reason I’m here. As a musician I write, produce, mix and perform a mixture of jazz, singer-songwriter and soul music. I write music for myself and have also engaged in writing and producing for others. I absolutely love the creative process and welcome all opportunities to create music. I think what sets me apart as an artist is how I incorporate the human experience into my songwriting. Ever since I was a kid I’ve been pondering existential questions such as “why are we here”, “what is my purpose”, “what’s out there in the universe and how do I fit into it”. So many of us are trying to find answers to these questions but don’t always have the means or know-how to do so. This is where my music comes in. I write music that is meant to connect us to our higher selves and help create a more meaningful existence. We each have an inner voice that is here to guide us on our unique journeys so we can attain everything we’re looking for. The aim of my music is to awaken that inner wisdom by creating an introspective experience for the listener. I want to help you cut through the noise of the world and spark a connection that is so deep within you, you didn’t even know it existed. I want to help you find your purpose and achieve everything you’ve ever wanted. This is the mission of my music and I will always do everything in my power to serve it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would spend a lot of time at the beach, of course. I’d take them for a bike ride on the lake trail around the intercoastal and show them my favorite spots along the trails. We might even do some jet skiing around the intercoastal. I’d also take them out to Clematis for some dinner and drinks and we could hit up some open mics like the one at Hullabaloo. I would take them kayaking at one of our parks like Riverbend or John MacArthur. We could also hit up some spots at the Jupiter inlet for some good seafood or head down to Wynwood for some great art and culture. Either way I’d make sure they were nice and relaxed after their trip here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people to whom I would love to give a shoutout. My immediate and extended family have been my biggest supporters since day one. I come from a musical family where my dad is a bluegrass musician and my mom and sister are both excellent singers. I’m forever grateful to my mom who enrolled my sister and me in Indian classical singing lessons. Starting at a very young age this type of music has given me the vocal ability that I have today. My sister’s musical interest sparked my musical interest my whole life and I never would have picked up the guitar if it weren’t for her. I also have to give a shoutout to my extended family who were the ones that encouraged me to start performing at open mics. Through performing at these events I met the most wonderful group of musicians and together we formed an artist collective called SoulFam. I’d have to say that this is one of the best things that has ever happened to me because I most certainly would not be the musician and artist I am today if it weren’t for this amazing group of people. We’re all kindred spirits who were drawn to each other through music and formed these amazing bonds. We spent our first few years together having tons of jam sessions, going to open mics, putting on showcases and just vibing and hanging out with one another all the time. It has been an amazing experience which continues today. These talented people have inspired and motivated me to be better and I’ve learned so much from them that has helped me improve my skills exponentially. They got me out of my comfort zone and helped me feel safe while doing so. We have created this beautiful, loving environment where no one is judged and everyone is pushed to be their best. We’ve all grown together and it’s been so exciting to see the amazing things these artists are doing. I’m very grateful to have these people in my life and I can’t wait to see where life takes us from here.
