We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Rivas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
well, I’ve always loved photography. Back when I was in FIU I took a couple of classes of art and photography and fell in love with the back and white developing process. Seeing the photograph appear right infront of your eyes, it was magic to me. I graduated from FIU with a masters in architecture and started my career in architecture. When COVID-19 hit our world, my office couldn’t keep all their employees and I was layed-off. At moment, I realized I had the opportunity to reevaluate my life and do what I really loved. So photography was my future. Soon after, I started taking photographs of my family and posted them online on my page. Fastforward a year, here I am.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I want the world to know about me is that, I love being a part of their families for at least those 20 min that their sessions last. That I cherish every moment that I get to do what I love. That I feel honored when they pick me to capture their moments. It makes me feel so special and I am thankful for them everyday.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I consider myself an artist, so I would take them to Wynwood, the artsy area in Miami. There are lots of art galleries and places to eat there. Also because I am a proud Peruvian, I would take them to Pisco y Nazca and Tambo grill, two of my favorite Peruvian restaurants in Miami.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank my beautiful family. My mom, for always helping set up for a photoshoot and always encouringing and believing in my dream. My daughter, Angie for always pushing me to be better version of myself and for being there when I need her. And last by definitely not least, my daughter, Andy for being my model and putting up with my crazy request of taking photos of her whenever I needed to. My family might not be big in size but they are big to me because they fill my whole life with joy and laughter.
