We had the good fortune of connecting with Annie Tran and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Annie, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I had to make was walking away from a blooming business because of a toxic friendship. Everyone always says to never get into business with your friends, but I believe that everything thinks that their friendships are different than the cliché.

We had built a successful cannabis accessory that I was extremely proud of with my best friends of over 14 years. We had a very unfortunate falling out that made me realize that they weren’t that great of friends after all. I decided that it wasn’t smart to stay in business with people that genuinely don’t have your best interests at heart & I walked away. It was heartbreaking to lose friends & a business I was passionate about at the same time.

Fast forward 2 years, I gained the courage rebuild my brand in the cannabis industry & I’ve never been happier. Now I can do it on my own terms & push myself to be better everyday. Difficult decisions can be what you make of it, I took this opportunity to light a fire under me & grow into something I’m proud of.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a digital marketing strategist who recently created @elegantxleaf to destigmatize the use of cannabis in the world & to show everyone that we can make using medical marijuana beautiful. My brand prides itself in creating content for other businesses, help them with branding, strategy, & even coaching them on how to navigate the cannabis space online.

I want medical users to embrace who they are & not be ashamed by their use. It should be as normal as pouring a glass of wine at the end of the day. I want the world to know that we can smoke pretty & being a successful stoner is possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m originally from Toronto so I have to say that the Beach is my favorite place to be! Walking through Wynwood is also a fun experience for anyone who has never been.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Through my personal & professional rebuild, my friend (now boyfriend!), Bryan Sebastiao, always provided me with perspective & honesty throughout my growth. We may not have always saw eye to eye on certain topics, but he always treated me with respect & love. My wellbeing was always priority to him, even if I forgot to make myself a priority. I’ve grown so much over the past few years & I have to thank him for giving me the strength to persevere.

I’d also love to give a shoutout to the ladies at CannaCurious who were the first to welcome me to Florida as I’m originally from Toronto. To be able to have a tribe of women by my side has been a blessing while I make my way in the Sunshine State.
