We had the good fortune of connecting with Hollie K. Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hollie K., what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is to be open to opportunities outside of what I expected. I have learned that oftentimes we come up with a plan, which is important, but that plan will include a route to our destination. If we are so focused on what we think that journey looks like, we can miss out on opportunities that could lead us to our destination. That does not mean saying yes to everything, but before saying no, I take the time to see the potential blessing and opportunity for growth.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I wear a few hats, but my business focuses on makeup artistry. As an esthetician and educator, I take pride in being able to customize makeup services for my clients based on what their skin needs as well as educate them on how to implement skin care routines in their daily lives.
The road has not been smooth the entire journey, but that presents opportunities to learn and grow. Early on, one of the things I struggled with was being concerned about others’ opinions in regard to changing careers. I have realized I cannot allow that to distract me or affect my confidence.
Building a successful business takes time and commitment. There will be smooth and challenging days. It requires late nights, continued education, and some trial and error, but it is so worth it! In addition to achieving goals I have set, I want others to see that it is okay to be passionate about more than one thing and there is not a time limit on deciding when you want to start working towards your goals. God has a way of creating a beautiful story for you. We just have to trust Him.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Florida has been home to me for eleven years now. The one thing I love about the Orlando area is the diversity.
If my best friend was visiting for a week, some of the places I would take them would be the downtown Winter Garden area. They have some amazing restaurants and outdoor areas to hang out. I would also take them to Domu, an awesome ramen and cocktail restaurant, plus they have some of the best wings! And FrutaMix Ocoee, for the freshest and some of the best Mexican food. (Can you tell I enjoy going out to eat? Hahaa!)
There are quite a few vineyards and orchards nearby, so if it were in season, a trip there would be a must as well.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been so blessed to have a circle of amazing people in my life! I have to thank my family and friends for always being so supportive and uplifting; for pushing me at times I didn’t even realize I probably needed it. I am grateful for my Elise Esthetics family. I graduated from there and now have the honor of being the lead instructor there. I am also grateful for the amazing beauty professionals I have developed relationships with over the years. It is awesome to have a circle of friends in the industry who understand, uplift and support you.
