We had the good fortune of connecting with Corey Heyman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first started out, all I knew was that I wanted to help people. I found that through practicing yoga, I was able to do just that. It started out as a sunrise yoga class, and it’s grown so much since then. I have figured it out day by day. I taught myself how to make a logo and website, i learned as much as I could about marketing, I studied and I practiced teaching as much as I possibly could. It has all been unfolding exactly as it should. I am transitioning into my full purpose full time, I am leaving my corporate job to chase my dreams. I now know that my purpose is to help people to connect. To themselves, to each other, and to something greater. This is my mission in my business as well.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a connector – I connect people to themselves, their bodies, their breath, to one another, and to something greater.
I am proud of what I am building, and I am so inspired to grow every day. It is still early days for me and I know there is so much more work to be done, and I am excited about that. I have been working a day job as I’ve been building up my business and I just put my notice in. By the new year I will leap full time into doing what I love – connecting people, guiding yoga classes, spreading love.
What sets me apart is my motivation, my drive, my passion for what I’m doing, the fire inside. It burns brightly. I am on fire for what I do, and I put as much time, energy, and love into it as I possibly can. This determination to be better than who I was yesterday is strong. In yoga philosophy, that inner fire is called Tapas. I’ve got a ton of it.
My road has not been easy – it’s been full of challenges and failures. Those are all learning moments, growth opportunities. You need the rain before the rainbow. You need the darkness to have the light. I use those challenges to change me, to mold me, to help me level up. I am grateful for it all, especially the hard times. I have dealt with injuries, getting covid, so much rain cancelling my events, and more. I have had many times where nobody showed up to class. I show up anyway. There is a lesson in every struggle, and it’s up to me to know that, to trust that, and to look for the lesson.
At the end of the day we’re all trying to do the same thing – to connect. I want to help anyone I can to do just that. I want the world to know my heart, to feel my energy, to be inspired to grow.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First and foremost, we would catch the sunrise.. it is unbeatable, stunning, breathtaking. We’d grab breakfast at Green Owl, Luna Rosa or Two Fat Breggfast. If it’s the first Sunday of the month I’d head to Coco Connections Market at Veterans Park, Delray Beach’s monthly wellness market! (This is my market and I’m soooo excited about it. Come check it out!). See below for some of my staples and recommendations:
Yoga or a movement class outdoors: Shelby g yoga, Becca Pace bodyART, Cocoyogi Sunrise & Sunset
Food: The Delray Market (Modern Rose Avocado Toast), Brulee, Sazio
To do: Green Market on Saturdays, the beach (duh), Morikami Museum, pinball arcade!
Coffee: Two Fat Breggfast, Dekes, Modern Rose
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have so many people who have been instrumental in my journey thus far. Who guide me every step of the way. Who cheer me on, who help me grow. I am so grateful for everyone on the other side of the phone when I need guidance or support. I am so blessed to be walking hand in hand with some inspiring teachers on this incredible journey.
I certainly would not be where I am today without these people. To name a few who have helped me along the way and are in my corner: Bill and Doreen Heyman, Pedro Luna, Mary Sabo, Shelby Gorstein, John Fitch, Jennifer Kleinberg, Amanda Libox. There are so many more. I am so lucky.
