We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Pardo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Will, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Do not wait: the time will never be ‘just right’. Start where you stand, and work whatever tools you may have at your command and better tools will be found as you go along.”
― Napoleon Hill
I love this quote! I interpret it as there is no perfect moment and if you’re driven, you can overcome any obstacles and find creative solutions. Fear, doubt, uncertainty, and over analyzing can stop us all dead in our tracks and prevent us from moving forward. It’s important to know, that moments will change, and challenges will confront us but’s it’s what we do in those teachable moments that define us. We either fold or move forward.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, I moved to Miami in 2004. Having a colorful background, I’ve always been involved in design in one way or another. In my earlier career, I worked in sales for the fashion industry in NYC for some big-name fashion designers. Shifting into graphic and web designing, I later became an Exhibit Designer for 6 years.
After 9/11 and meeting my future wife in Coral Gables, it was time for a change. I decided to relocate to Florida and make a fresh new start. After months of freelancing, I joined Design Within Reach as an Account Executive and was later promoted to Studio Proprietor. While making a fantastic living and leading the Coral Gables Studio into the top 10 most profitable studios, the impact of 2008 housing market crash forced me to reconsider my position. In addition, being married in 2009 and wanting to start a family, it was time for another change. I decided to take an inside sales position at the DCOTA center working for some of the top residential high-end luxury manufactures. We customized lighting, furniture, rugs and a range of other products for the interior design trade community. It was there that I would hone my trade skills that ultimately lead me to Maharam and allowed me to expand my client base, not only residential designers but commercial as well. After 9 years, I said goodbye to DCOTA and hello to the world of textiles and outside sales!
If there is anything I have learned over the years, it is to control what you can, judge less, be empathic, show gratitude and above all, relationships matter. It’s what all great companies and individuals have in common. These have become my guiding principles and something I work at every day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Florida has plenty to offer, such as world class beaches and amazing natural springs. I currently reside in Deerfield Beach with my wife, daughter, and fur baby so I’m partial to my local neighborhood and the downtown area. The whole area has been renovated over the last few years. It has a great beach town vibe, amazing restaurants, neighborhood bars and a picture-perfect pier. If you’re an early bird and like photography or need images for your IG account, you can catch some amazing sunrises!
The Whales Rib is well known and still one of my favorite spots. Papa’s Raw Bar in Lighthouse Point is another gem. It’s a little off the beaten path but locals will rave about it. Great food, live bands, you’ll feel you’re in another city. For those who want a livelier walking scene, East Atlantic Blvd in Delray Beach is the place to be. There are tons of food options to satisfy whatever you’re craving. It’s always busy! And the new Delray Market, is a must!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I like to give a big shoutout to my wife and daughter. They are my WHY! They keep me motivated to be a better version of myself. Friends and colleagues, old and new, who have impacted me in so many ways. The Thubten Kunga Ling Buddhist Temple located in Deerfield Beach, Florida. It’s still a work in progress but they helped me to be lead with compassion and empathy. Simon Sinek for being a leader for the “little guy” and helping to challenge the status quo. Love his books! And finally, my current work organization for giving me the opportunity to thrive and genuinely be able to say #LoveMyCareer!
