We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Nunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steve, what do you attribute your success to?
Versatility and high quality airbrushed artwork is the main factor behind the success of my brand. The relentless pursuit of achieving photo-realism in my artworks is also an important factor in the success of my artworks and projects.. There are many airbrush artists and many can achieve some degree of realism but consistently producing near photographic quality or a stylized version has allowed my artwork to standout. Rendering high quality images on motorcycle parts and switching to canvas paintings shows the versatility that is capable with an artist who can use an airbrush to its full potential. Versatility has been key to my success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My artwork is mainly done on request and I’m primarily a ‘commission artist’ in that most artwork on my site (www.stevenunez.com) was painted on request for a customer. I’m usually contacted via e-mail and asked about the specifics of getting something ‘painted.’ Typically requests range from painting a picture of a person’s ‘child’ or ‘loved one’ to their vehicle or dragons on canvas- or side of a computer etc…- the range is quite large as requests can virtually be anything imagined. I’m the ‘people’s artist!’ If you can think it- I can paint it for you!!
My goal is to offer artwork I myself find interesting and visually appealing with the hopes others find it worth purchasing and displaying in their homes or offices. To be able to keep painting for a living is quite a unique fortunate position I hope to keep in the coming years.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the Fort Lauderdale areas are, “Lauderdale-By-The-Sea”, “Las Olas”, ‘Flaming Gardens” and the drive up US1 from Lighthouse Point to upper Palm Beach county- it’s a wonderful drive and amazing scenery: it’s pure Florida in it’s essence.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My “Shoutout’ goes to the ‘graffiti scene’ in New York in the late 1980’s. It was the graffiti artists that were using airbrushes to render graffiti murals and canvas paintings that led to my discovery of the tool and it’s usefulness as an artist technique. Without the NYC graffiti scene I would have never discovered airbrushing- thanks guys- you pioneered airbrushing for many artists!
