We had the good fortune of connecting with Robbie Elias and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robbie, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about the music industry that outsiders are probably not aware of is that I feel like it actually takes a lot more courage and sense of self to take a risk to follow your dreams. So many times you are put through the ringer, you are made to feel like you’re not good enough, you are judged constantly. But I think its about knowing your purpose and being able to push through those moments where you don’t know where your next paycheck is coming from, or when you are rejected. It takes balls!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The longer I am in the music industry, the more I feel like my idea of success changes. Initially we all want to be the biggest star in the world, but sometimes that not the case, but it doesn’t mean I’m not living my dream or succeeding. I have my own music out, I get to sing backgrounds for some of the biggest names in the latin pop industry like Daddy Yankee, Natti Natasha, Alejandro Sanz, Ricky Martin, Guaynaa and more. Thats success to me. Do I have other goals, do I want to always reach for more? Sure. But our value is internal.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I was born and raised in Miami. So I’d probably give a tour of Calle Ocho, I’d take them to see some live music at Neme Gastro Bar, maybe see a drag show at Nathan’s on South Beach and then some classic Cuban food at La Carreta.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother has always been my rock. I’m one of the lucky ones who had musician parents growing up, so in a lot of ways, I feel like I’m following this dream for my family.
