We had the good fortune of connecting with Shantuey Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shantuey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

I always knew I wanted to get into fashion. My mother would share toddler stories about how I would pick out my own clothing and everything would match. So it’s been a gift at birth, which transition into my grade school days.

After high school I enrolled l into American InterContinental University and obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. Fast-forward years later after working for many mainstream retail companies and dissatisfied with the thought of building out some else’s vision. I decided in 2020 it’s finally time launch my own online boutique “The Vault Brand”.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

My online boutique The Vault Brand.

It was imperative to me that my brand highlighted the many layers of black woman. We are the blue print! If you were to look up the word “vault” in the dictionary you’ll see synonyms such as chamber and concrete. I wanted my business name to be cogent and inspirational.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
El Tucán, Papi Steak, Superblue, Bayside, R&B Night, Little Hen, Dukunoo, Rooftop and online retail-therapy shopping with The Vault Brand. All of these places mention above are highly recommended places to visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

To my greatest joy my daughter Tye. She’s the motivation behind the woman you see today. We’re teaching and learning from each other on this journey called life. I love you bug!!

To my parents whom I am thankful for. Although my father is no longer with me. I am thankful for the years we were able to have together. Our journey together wasn’t always easy and we had many battles.

My mother the toughest, most strongest woman I met. I love you dearly! She’s currently in the hospital fighting to stay with (us) her 3 girls and 6 grandkids. Our journey as well wasn’t easy. To be an parent it takes a great deed of understanding.

Understanding to always remember that they are a human first and a parent second. To learn to understand their reasons for their choices. Because you only get one mother and father and everyone has an expiration date.

Last but not least to ALL those who supported me and believed in my vision. Thank you a million! 🤎
